gmatquestion12
I have a quick question regarding the cancellation policy - if one decides to cancel the exam score after taking the exam within the period right after the exam, do the score reports sent to schools show that there was a test taken on that date and the score was cancelled or do the admission committees not see that a test was even taken that day - basically as if the test never happened? If someone could clarify, that would be very helpful. Thank you.
Dear
gmatquestion12,
I'm happy to respond.
The old GMAC policy was that the score report sent to schools would show that there was a canceled score on such-and-such a date, but give no information about that exam. GMAC changed their policy in the last year or two. Now, there is absolutely no evidence of any canceled score on the score report. Now, if you cancel a score, that is something known only to you, and adcom will never know.
Having said that, I will add: don't plan to fail. Don't go into a GMAT with the plan of giving yourself an out if you don't do as well as you would like. Plan to make yourself so prepared that you don't have any shadow of a doubt about your success. Prepare for your test as if your very life depended on it: prepare with a high level of excellence in every step. In my opinion, the cancellation should be used primary for an out-of-the-blue problem (e.g. you get sick during the test, etc.) Other than unpredictable problems, make yourself as prepared as any human being could be.
That's my two cents.
Best of luck,
Mike
