Hello,

I need some suggestions in deciding whether to go for GMAT classic or GMAT focus.

I scored 690 (Q 49, V 35) in my last GMAT classic attempt (Nov 14, 2023). It was my 3rd attempt (previous scores - 620 and 670). After this, I took a gap in my preparation.

I attempted GMAT focus official mock 1 today and scored 655(Q 84, V 82, DI 81).

I believe I am a bit scared of SC even though I score more in SC than in CR (sometimes the other way around).

I understand that it will be my decision ultimately but I just wish for some guidance. My GMAT classic target scores were 730+. I don't know yet what I am expecting in GMAT focus

Focus might be a better move.
Important: you can't simply compare your FE and Classic scores; you should compare the percentiles/

A GMAT FE score of 655 is in the 93rd percentile, whereas a GMAT Classic score of 690 (your latest test) is in 74th percentile.
Also, a GMAT Classic score of 730 is in 95th percentile.

Here are the percentiles for both tests:

Classic edition ending in a month, I think you will be better off with Focus, esp since your scores are comparable.

moreover, focus scores tend to be more consistent and not fluctuate so much.

Thank you for the advice. Just to inform you -
Brief about my Mock history before my attempt 3 -

Official GMAT practice test 3 - 720 (Q50, V38)
Official GMAT practice test 4 - 730 (Q50, V39)
Gmat club test - 730 (Q47, V43)

So, yes, my score of 690 (82%) was less than I had expected. My target score for classic was 730+.

Hi JeffTargetTestPrep,

That's a typo on mba.com. The actual percentile associated with 690 is (currently) most likely 78% if there are no other errors in the data.

Thank you. Looks like we lowballed your quant and bumped up V to a very rare V43. Surprising. While matching the overall score 🤪

Yes, there is something weird going on with percentiles on GMAT focus. The table published on mba.com was not matching with the score reports were showing, they were off by one step and GMAC said they were working on the new updated one…

I posted the updated supposedly correct table on GMAT Club but the person tells will be a little bit in the flux until the new table comes out

Hi bb,

It's not the first time we've seen an error on mba.com, but in this particular case, the percentile that JeffTargetTestPrep was looking at (for 690) is lower than the percentile for 680 and 670.

Ahhh, you're absolutely right. I never noticed that 74 wasn't in line with the ordering.

Yes, infact Q47 is my highest score in GMAT club's mock test. There are some mind bending questions here 😄.

Thank you for your suggestions though, I think i have made my choice to attempt Focus rather than classic.
