The maximum carry over that can result from the addition of B + Y is 1 (as B and Y are single digit integers). Hence, the addition of 1 + A + X has resulted into 1X

1X can be represented as 10 + X

Therefore (1 + A) = 10
A = 9

IMO - E

The expression above shows an addition operation where A, B, X, Y, and P are all single - digit, non-negative integers.

Which of the following represents the value of A?

AB - Two Digit
+
XY - Two Digit
=
1XP - Three Digit
10th Digit of second Number and 10th Digit of result 3 digit number are same.

when (B+Y) = sum more than 10 and "one" carry addition on (A+X)

Expression of A has to be 9, which on addition with 1, will lead to result 10th digit as 10 and second 10th digit number be same

Eg :
97 + 84 = 181
Correct Option E
