New post 05 Jun 2012, 08:55

Welcome to the new and improved GMAT Club!

We are thrilled to present to you the new and improved GMAT Club! The forum look has been fully redesigned, updated, and published as of today, June 5. You will find a new fresh design, easy to use navigation menu, and a number of new features. We appreciate you visiting and hope you enjoy. However, this is not the end, but rather a beginning. We will be updating our home page by end of June and Member profiles by early August. Similarly, we will be adding new questions and functionality to GMAT Club CAT tests with new features in July and August. If you have any suggestions or recommendations, please let me know. You can also report anything unusual here.

1. Shortcuts

We have added shortcuts to the most commonly used features on the site. Currently these are the same for every forum and every post, but as time goes by and after a few months of usage patters, the system will figure out the most commonly used features/links/functionality to include in this convenient location. If you have any suggestions for the shortcuts, please reply in the thread or PM me. Right now, we have included Question Banks (find any question by topic, difficulty, or source in a matter of seconds), Downloads (find what's popular and being download at GMAT Club by Forum), Bookmarks (we encourage you to bookmark topics and hope this easy link will help you get back to the bookmarks), and Reviews (GMAT Course reviews, GMAT test center reviews, and Admission consultant reviews). See an example in the GMAT Forum.

2. Sorting Post by Headers

We know from our own experience, and also from the user requests, that sorting forum posts quickly is really a must-have. We are adding this feature to be much more convenient and very handy. You can now sort by any column - you can find all the Expert Reply discussions, for example, or those that have the most Kudos, or perhaps views. By default each forum is sorted chronologically so you can find the latest discussions first. Test-drive this feature in the Quant Forum.

3. Easily Bookmark Topics

We have added a clear button to allow you to bookmark your favorite discussions (you can also easily find your bookmarks now). Previously you could only bookmark a discussion, but in the future you will be able to bookmark individual posts so you can narrow it down the exact point of discussion. We encourage you to explore bookmarks and use this feature often. Your bookmarks are private to your account. You can also use the social bookmarks such as Facebook, Google+, and others - you can find them at the top of each discussion.

4. Find Related Discussions Easily

We have moved up and improved the "Similar Topics" functionality. Now you will find a box with relevant content at the bottom of every first post. The feature works based on the header of the topic and, if there are similar topics posted in any of the forums in the last 5 years, it will present you with the most relevant 5 posts. This is especially helpful when you are going through the Math Forum and Verbal Forum. You might find a question posted by a user who did not do their research and did not realize that there is already a 30+ post discussion on their question. The Expert Badge as well as the Kudos count for each discussion will also appear in the Similar Topics box. These provide an easy way to spot quality discussions. For example, here is one: 2012 Zero Admit Club - you can find the 2011 and 2010 versions of this thread and see what people did to change their situation.

5. New Redesigned Timer in Math Forum and Verbal Forum

The Timer is no stranger at GMAT Club - used more than 250,000 times over the last 2 years, it is well used, but now it is drop dead gorgeous. You absolutely have no excuse not to use it. The timer times your performance (duh), but in addition to that, it records every question you attempt and saves your history. If you go back to a question you have previously attempted (had one of those deja vu's?), it will tell you when you attempted that question and how you did. There is also a very helpful question list of all your attempted questions - we call it Your Workbook. It has not been redesigned yet (Rome was not built in one day either) but it will be completely redone in early August when the entire profile area is updated. Try your skills on this one.
