For manufacturing of the vaccine Fluvax, the first step is to grow a particular virus InfluX under strictly controlled temperature conditions, in the range of -65 degree celsius to -67 degree celsius, within a bioreactor. Tests on the virus show that it can actually grow well in a broader range of temperature, even up to a temperature as high as -50 degree celsius. Since growing the virus successfully is the most important step of manufacturing the vaccine, as some financial controllers think, by relaxing the temperature conditions the manufacturing costs can be significantly reduced without risking the loss of the batch. However, the idea of the financial controllers may not be effective because a catalyst used in the process cannot withstand such levels of temperature fluctuations.

In the argument above, the two boldfaced parts play which of the following roles?

A. The first is an objection against the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion of the author.
B. The first is the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion that the author calls into question.

C. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the author calls into question; the second is a condition on which that perception is based.

D. The first is a claim that the author calls into question; the second is the opinion of the author.

E. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the argument calls into question; the second is that opinion.

A. The first is an objection against the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion of the author.

The second is incorrect. The second bold face is not the opinion of the author.

B. The first is the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion that the author calls into question.

The first part is incorrect.

C. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the author calls into question; the second is a condition on which that perception is based.

The first part is correct, the second part is incorrect

D. The first is a claim that the author calls into question; the second is the opinion of the author.

Both parts are incorrect.

E. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the argument calls into question; the second is that opinion.

This seems correct.

This is incorrect. The first is a perception not an objection
B. The first is the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion that the author calls into question.
-First is not an opinion of the author. Second option is also wrong as author is not arguing against the opinion
C. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the author calls into question; the second is a condition on which that perception is based.
-Second is a an opinion. It is not a condition. Thus this option is incorrect
D. The first is a claim that the author calls into question; the second is the opinion of the author.
-This is incorrect. Author is not questioning the first claim that has been made
E. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the argument calls into question; the second is that opinion.-This is the correct option.growing the virus successfully is the most important step of manufacturing the vaccine ,this is to justify the 2nd opinion that if the vaccines are kept at a relaxing temperature then manufacturing cost can be reduced.

A. The first is an objection against the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion of the author.
INCORRECT. The first is definitely not an objection against the opinion of the author. The second is also not an opinion of the author.

B. The first is the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion that the author calls into question.
INCORRECT: It could be the case that the author may believe the first statement to be true, but in her argument she mentioned that the first is a a belief held by some financial controllers. We are not sure though whether the first is also an opinion of the author for sure.

C. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the author calls into question; the second is a condition on which that perception is based.
INCORRECT The second is definitely not a condition on which the perception is based.

D. The first is a claim that the author calls into question; the second is the opinion of the author.
INCORRECT The second is not an opinion of the author

E. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the argument calls into question; the second is that opinion.
CORRECT. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the argument calls into question. Here the opinion under question is: "by relaxing the temperature conditions the manufacturing costs can be significantly reduced without risking the loss of the batch"

Boldface 1: growing the virus successfully is the most important step of manufacturing the vaccine
Boldface 2: the manufacturing costs can be significantly reduced without risking the loss of the batch
Conclusion: However, the idea of the financial controllers may not be effective because a catalyst used in the process cannot withstand such levels of temperature fluctuations.

Boldface 1 is the perception on which Boldface 2 is based is based.
Boldface 2 is contradicted by the author in the conclusion.
In the argument above, the two boldfaced parts play which of the following roles?

Quote:
A. The first is an objection against the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion of the author.
The first is the opinion of the author and the second is contradicted by the author.
Incorrect.

Quote:
B. The first is the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion that the author calls into question.
The first boldface is not the opinion of the author since catalyst also plays equally important role in the manufactuing process.
Incorrect.

Quote:
C. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the author calls into question; the second is a condition on which that perception is based.
Boldface 2 is based on boldface 1 and not vice versa.
Incorrect.

Quote:
D. The first is a claim that the author calls into question; the second is the opinion of the author.
The first is NOT a claim. The second is NOT hte opinion of the author.
Incorrect.

Quote:
E. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the argument calls into question; the second is that opinion.
The first is a perception ( growing the virus successfully is the most important step of manufacturing the vaccine) that has been offered in support of the opinion (the manufacturing costs can be significantly reduced without risking the loss of the batch) that the argument calls into question. the second is that opinion.
Correct.

Thank you sayantanc2k for the question!!!

Information:
Vaccine production requires growing a virus which grows at -65 to -67 temperatures but can also grow as high up to -50 temperatures
Some financial analysts think that since growing the vaccine is the most important, and if it can grow in lower temperatures then why not save some money in the process as well
But their plan might not work since there is a catalyst involved which does not function well in temperature fluctuations
Let us now jump into the options

A. The first is an objection against the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion of the author.

The second is not the opinion of the author. ELIMINATE

B. The first is the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion that the author calls into question.

The first is also not the opinion of the author. ELIMINATE

C. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the author calls into question; the second is a condition on which that perception is based.

Growing virus is the most important part is NOT based on the condition that manufacturing costs can be reduced without any risk of loss of batch

D. The first is a claim that the author calls into question; the second is the opinion of the author.

The second is not the opinion of the author. ELIMINATE

E. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the argument calls into question; the second is that opinion.

First part which states that growing the virus is the most important part is in support of the next part which says that reducing temperature will reduce cost but not result in batch loss, and this is the opinion that is called into question by the argument
