In the argument above, the two boldfaced parts play which of the following roles?

A. The first is an objection against the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion of the author.- Statement 1 & statement 2 both are wrong
B. The first is the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion that the author calls into question.

C. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the author calls into question; the second is a condition on which that perception is based. Statement 2 is wrong.

D. The first is a claim that the author calls into question; the second is the opinion of the author. again S1 & S 2 are wrong.

E. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the argument calls into question; the second is that opinion.

Both B & E seems correct. However, went with B as it's written in layman's language.

B1
growing the virus successfully is the most important step of manufacturing the vaccine

B2
the manufacturing costs can be significantly reduced without risking the loss of the batch
he idea of the financial controllers may not be effective

D. The first is a claim that the author calls into question; the second is the opinion of the author.

OPTION D is correct

In the argument above, the two boldfaced parts play which of the following roles?

C. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the author calls into question; the second is a condition on which that perception is based.

We clearly know that the first statement is not the author's opinion based on the content mentioned within comma's. We know that first is a perception of the financial controllers and they have that perception since they believe that the costs can be reduced without losing the batch. Now we know that the second statement is a 'condition' as specified in the argument itself. Given these facts, option C is the best answer according to me.

Boldface are always tricky for me, moderators please correct my reasoning.

This is incorrect. The first is a perception not an objection
B. The first is the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion that the author calls into question.
-First is not an opinion of the author. Second option is also wrong as author is not arguing against the opinion
C. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the author calls into question; the second is a condition on which that perception is based.
-Second is a an opinion. It is not a condition. Thus this option is incorrect
D. The first is a claim that the author calls into question; the second is the opinion of the author.
-This is incorrect. Author is not questioning the first claim that has been made
E. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the argument calls into question; the second is that opinion.-This is the correct option.growing the virus successfully is the most important step of manufacturing the vaccine ,this is to justify the 2nd opinion that if the vaccines are kept at a relaxing temperature then manufacturing cost can be reduced.

A. The first is an objection against the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion of the author.
INCORRECT. The first is definitely not an objection against the opinion of the author. The second is also not an opinion of the author.

B. The first is the opinion of the author; the second is the opinion that the author calls into question.
INCORRECT: It could be the case that the author may believe the first statement to be true, but in her argument she mentioned that the first is a a belief held by some financial controllers. We are not sure though whether the first is also an opinion of the author for sure.

C. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the author calls into question; the second is a condition on which that perception is based.
INCORRECT The second is definitely not a condition on which the perception is based.

D. The first is a claim that the author calls into question; the second is the opinion of the author.
INCORRECT The second is not an opinion of the author

E. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the argument calls into question; the second is that opinion.
CORRECT. The first is a perception that has been offered in support of the opinion that the argument calls into question. Here the opinion under question is: "by relaxing the temperature conditions the manufacturing costs can be significantly reduced without risking the loss of the batch"

There are 2 opposite claims in the argument. Financial controller think that he manufacturing costs can be significantly reduced without risking the loss of the batch. While the author thinks that a catalyst used in the process cannot withstand such levels of temperature fluctuations and will risk the batch.

The 2 bold statements are from financial controllers only. One is the reason supporting the second statement (there will be no risk), which author questions in the last statement of the argument.

option E correctly matches with these 2 bold statements.
