Hi yaygmat.
I doubt the GMAT Focus edition will be harder than the current GMAT. However, there is a possibility that the Quant section will be a little harder since people's Quant scores on the current GMAT have been bunching up near the top of the range. So, it's possible that GMAC will make the Quant section a little harder to attempt to address that issue.
Meanwhile there will still be Verbal questions in the Verbal section of new GMAT and in the DI section. So, you'll still have to be strong in Verbal to achieve your score goal.
So, your could do your best to prepare for the current GMAT, and see how it goes. Most of your prep will apply to the new GMAT as well. So, it's not as if you'd be wasting time by preparing for the current GMAT. You could perhaps leave SC an Geometry for the end of your preparation to keep your options open.
For a detailed discussion of the expected differences between the tests, see this post.
