I recently appeared for the GMAT Official Practice Test 6. Have a major confusion in Verbal section, described below:
GMAT Official Practice Test 5: Scored a V34 by getting 22/36 correct GMAT Official Practice Test 6: Scored a V21 by getting 23/36 correct
Based on my analysis, below are the possible reasons:
1) I think the level dipped when I got 2 incorrect easy CR questions (< 600 level) in a row in the first 5 questions 2) I missed last 3 questions as I ran out of time (they were also < 650 level)
To add, I appeared for these mocks (in order) on consecutive days.
Can anyone comment and explain such a major drop in score? What should be the strategy going forward?
Thanks in advance.

I have seen this before. It is not the number of questions u have missed, it's more like what kind of questions you are missing, so if you miss consecutively the GMAT algorithm kinda pushes you down in level, then you miss another one and it pushes you below even more, This downward spiral plummets your level of difficulty that GMAT thinks you can handle. And once you are stuck in the "easy" question department, you don't improve much since the drop took your level down. I think that's what happened.
Thanks Alvira, makes total sense. Any strategies to avoid this kind of mishaps? (apart from the obvious and also silly - being cautious in the initial questions)
The best route I would personally take is to even out the levels. Can you make correct answers to all the RC, CR and SC questions of easy level? Then move to medium level, then move to hard. GMAT Algorithm really rewards stability over "the number of questions we can get correct". Check if you are making all the easy and medium questions evenly all across the board, that would really boost your score. Best of luck.

Thanks again, Alvira. I think the blunder happened with CR specifically this time. I will stick to basics and hopefully that brings back my score to normal.
