Yeah, just ordered my GMAT scores from Pearson Vue and noticed by 50Q dropped from 95% to 94%...but that 780 total is going to stay 99% for a while! WOOT WOOT :yes

i hear that as soon as one passes 750 in GMAT, one can apply to Mensa for membership..

Anyone did it? Or thought about doing it? Might come in handy when interviewing....or when your resume gets published in the book for employers....

I know that you can use SAT scores (at least as of a few years ago), but was unaware about the GMAT.

Edit: Added link to Mensa. Apparently, they don't accept the SAT, but GMAT (if you're 95 %ile or higher on Q and V).

Hehe. If you are being serious and looking to get into finance, then I'd advise against it! When interviewers see Mensa or similar stuff on a resume, they will work extra hard to tear you apart. (Mensa, poker, chess, math competitions on a resume open you up to very complicated/pressure questions.)

Mensa's standards are actually fairly low. I'm sure you could get in (if you pay your dues), but anyone who knows a bit about Mensa will know that their standards are fairly low.

Did anyone find it a little odd that their cutoff for the old-old SAT was 1250 while for the GMAT it was the 95% ?

I'm not sure how the old SAT stacked up, but I seemed to know a lot of people that scored above 1250. Plus, the GMAT takers are a highly selective group to start with (not a cross section of society) ...

If I get into one of the schools I applied to, I won't give two sh*ts whether my percentile drops.

Interesting. I've just been putting the splits from the score report the day I took the test. It can't be too far off from the original ones now...

My understanding is that percentiles are year specific. Your percentile can change until the final tally is made, but after that it's fixed.

In other words, if you took the GMAT back in 2000, your 700 is still a 97% (or whatever it was).

I just got this from Pearson VUE:

"For each of your scores on the GMAT® test(Verbal, Quantitative, Total, and Analytical Writing Assessment), you will receive a percentile rank. Each rank indicates the percentage of examinees that have scored below you based on the scores of the entire GMAT® testing population in the last three years. Your percentile rank may change from year-to-year, possibly more often, depending on current scores received by test-takers. However, your scaled score never changes."

That's not really clear on when the "three years" starts and stops. It's not a big deal though, just something I noticed.

Unlike most tests, the qualifying score for the GMAT is based on the percentile of the total score. There are three columns on the score report, each with a numerical score and a percentile. You're looking for the percentile next to the score in the "total" column — if it's 95% or greater, the score qualifies you for Mensa.

So it's 95% on your total score (i.e. 740+ or whatever), not on both your Q and your V individually.

I figured this when I saw Tara Reid at my last Mensa meeting.

You mean that Mensa membership makes you look nerdy therefore less attractive to employers, or that it makes interviewers want to 'test' if you're really smart?
