Hi dkumar2012,

Most Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) on their GMAT studies, so you've done pretty well so far considering that it's just been 1 month. With your current Scaled Scores, the missing points that you're looking for will come primarily from the Verbal section, so you're going to have to spend most of your remaining time on that section.

You've been working primarily from books, which tends to 'limit' most Test Takers. The books that you have are fine for practice problems, but you'll likely need to invest in some new "non-book" materials to hit your score goals.

Hi EmpowerGmat,

I have been studying for GMAT for about 2 months but only the theory, specially for Verbal, and started doing OG question from past month. before that i did not do anything on verbal as such i can call practice. I believe, i am good with Quant and if i remove my silly mistakes i can reach 49 in quant but i have always been weak in verbal.

With your current Scaled Scores, the missing points that you're looking for will come primarily from the Verbal section, so you're going to have to spend most of your remaining time on that section.
I am Looking forward to it

What non-book materials? are you talking about GMAT equivalent tests. if not then please suggest which practice material should i go for. I have OG Q review and OG Verbal Review. i am looking forward to work on them. i also have GMATPREP COMPREHENSIVE SC file which i downloaded from GMAT Club itself. along with these, I have Veritas SC,CR, and RC books, 1000- SC,CR and RC files and few tests from different sources which i got from my friends. anything else you want to suggest?

Hi dkumar2012,

Working out of books and printouts does NOT properly simulate what you'll have to do on Test Day. The physical challenges of working on a computer for 4+ hours cannot be matched by any book, so while some book practice is fine, a proper training program will make you do most of the work online (re: on a computer). Beyond doing practice problems though, you really need to learn the tactics, patterns and secrets to the GMAT (and there are LOTS of them), so investing in a resource that will TEACH you these concepts and train you to use them would also be a good idea.

Hi EmpowerGmat,

The Point you mentioned is really good. I will buy tests from GMAC itself and practice on them. addition to this i will use GMAT CAT from different resources to improve my Examination skills.

Thank You.

I'd recommend you study the MGMAT SC very carefully and also take a handful of practice tests (MGMAT, GMAT Club, Economist...) to find your weaknesses/strengths and see the patterns they have in the tests. For RC, I recommend reading WSJ/NY Times/The Economist articles daily, you dont need to read a lot, maybe 10-15 mins a day but this has to be consistent. I was able to improve my Verbal score by 10 points in three weeks just by taking a lot of practice exams and reading articles daily.

Also familiarize yourself with a timing strategy when taking the GMAT. Mine was (Question - Minutes left):
Quant: 9 - 58, 18 - 40, 27 - 22
Verbal: 10 - 58, 20 - 40, 30 - 22
I found this benchmark works relatively well for me. Since they tend to throw harder questions towards the end of the test, this should allow you some extra time to deal with more difficult questions. Good luck!

For CR, I went through the Critical Reasoning Bible (twice) - best thing ever. I did not really fully understand the patterns in CR before reading this book. I think it's very helpful. Just practice a lot you should be fine. Again don't forget to do a practice test every once in a while. I did about 10 tests from March 22 to April 12 and was able to improve my total GMAT score by 60 (10 points up for Verbal section) as I just retook it 2 days ago!
