GMAT prep book/guide 2017 vs 2021 ?

Hi,

I am starting prep for GMAT, I have GMAT study guide 2017, will it be enough? or do I need to buy the 2021 version?

2017 guide will suffice as well.
You will get the new questions that have been added to the new Og's on gmatclub.

Hello,  abhishekmadan , and welcome to GMAT Club. I agree with what has been said above. You can use either the  Practice Question Banks  or the  OG Directory  to access questions published since the 2017 edition. (Using the latter, you can spot the new questions for each edition by the  highlighted  question numbers.)

The only drawback I can think of that you may be missing out on if your OG is used is that you will not be able to build practice sets on the Wiley Efficient Learning website/app. It does provide an easy way to work on, say, Medium SC questions by official categorization.

Hi abhishekmadan,

The main OG books are one of the best sources for Official practice questions that once appeared on the GMAT - so you would be fine using any relatively recent version of the main Official Guide (meaning that you would be fine with the GMAT2017 book and you do not need to purchase the GMAT2021 book). That having been said, those books are not designed to teach you Tactics, patterns or the little 'secrets' behind the GMAT - for those, you'll need Course-oriented materials. To that end, you might want work on the OG a little later on in your studies.

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can take 2 for free at www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have that Score, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.
