Hi,
I just started my GMAT prep and took a PT today. I took the Manhattan Free CAT and scored a 650 (V: 34, Q:45). Please guide me about how to go forward. I already have the Magoosh subscription and am wondering what else do I need. I have OG 2018 versions as well. Please suggest good tutors as well in Delhi, NCR.

Besides magoosh I will suggest to follow manhattan strategy guides and powerscore for critical reasoning

Hi Nikita1997,

To start, a 650 is a really strong initial CAT Score (the average Score on the Official GMAT hovers around 550 most years). With a Score Goal of 750+, you will likely require at least 2-3 months of consistent, guided study - and you'll have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on your timeline and your goals:

1) Is your goal score 750 or is it something else?
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
4) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

I would suggest take an official mock first to gauge the exact mock score.Manhattan prep/Veritas all are great mocks to learn concepts but for
baseline score its better you take a free official mock from MBA.COM .Also please time your mock.Once you know where you stand start with the
great advise the experts above just shared :)

I want a 750+ as I have heard its a requirement to be considered by the top business schools.
I plan on taking my GMAT before September 1st
I am applying to all Ivy League business schools and other great schools like Booth, Hass..
I plan to apply in 2021 or 2022

Hi,

To start with 650 is a decent score on Manhattan CAT. If you think Magoosh is not sufficient for Verbal. You can try egmat. It has really good reviews as well. For Quant I would suggest you go thru Manhattan Quant guides and couple them with GMAT club tests, which will help you reach at least Q48.

Thanks!

Hi Nikita1997,

Based on the timeline that you describe, you currently have up to another 2.5 months of potential study time - and you could potentially improve a great deal in that timeframe, although you will have to be really 'efficient' with your time to consistently score 750+. As an aside, the 750+ score is currently right around the 98th percentile - meaning that 98% of Test Takers never score that high (regardless of how long they study or the number of times that they take the GMAT). Thankfully, NO Business School actually requires a score that high - so it's important to realize that the score that you "want" and the score that you "need" (to get into your first-choice School) are not the same thing.

Since you're currently using some GMAT materials, I suggest that you study as you see fit for the next 2 weeks, then take a NEW, FULL-LENGTH CAT - and make sure to take it in a realistic fashion (take the FULL CAT - with the Essay and IR sections, take it away from your home, at the same time of day as when you'll take the Official GMAT, etc.). Once you have that score, you should report back here and we can discuss the results and how you might adjust your studies going forward.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
