Thanks for this detailed information, Rich. My GMAT is in three days. Although I have been mostly scoring 99 percentile in my recent CATs (770, 680, 770, 760), I think it could be largely because I have already come across those questions during my preparation and/or previous CATs.

Hi davidbeckham,

While the most realistic CATs available are the 6 from GMAC, retaking a CAT that you've already taken is NOT a realistic way to assess your skills - since you will likely see some 'repeat' questions that you have already faced. Unfortunately, seeing even a couple of repeats can 'throw off' the Scoring Algorithm and impact your pacing, energy levels, fatigue, etc. (meaning that they would likely all appear to be better than they actually are). Each 'pool' of questions that comes with a practice CAT will be 'limited' by design - since there's not much of a reason to place lots and lots of questions into a pool (as most of those questions would never be seen). Thankfully, the CATs from Kaplan, MGMAT and Veritas are all 'close enough' to the real thing that they will provide you with a relatively realistic score assessment (assuming that you correctly take the CAT in a realistic fashion) - so you can use any NEW CATs from any of those sources next.

From your post, I assume that you're looking to take additional CATs. It's worth noting that a CAT is really a 'measuring device' though - when used correctly, it will give you a realistic score and help define your strengths and weaknesses, but it will NOT help you to fix any of those weaknesses. To raise your scores, you have to learn the necessary Tactics and put in the proper practice and repetitions. The CAT will show you whether your studies are helping you to improve or not. As such, you really shouldn't take more than 1 FULL CAT per week.

1) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks so far and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
2) What is your overall goal score?
3) When are you planning to take the GMAT?

Hi davidbeckham,

So, you are correct in thinking that you can reset the two free GMAC practice exams; however, there is no way to ensure that you do not see any repeated questions. That said, have you taken any of the four paid GMAC practice exams?

Thanks, Scott - no I haven't paid for any of the GMAC practice exams. My GMAT is in three days so I am not sure if I should pay for these CAT or solve Manhattan/Veritas mocks. Ideally, I don't want to take a mock a day before the test day, that means I can only take the mock test today (not sure if I want to spend $50 on just one mock). However, from what I have read on this forum apparently MGMAT and Veritas mocks are not as accurate as GMAC practice exams and are actually a lot harder. I am a bit skeptical about seeing a low score at this stage - I feel that would really hurt my confidence.

Hi davidbeckham,

Since you are so close to your Official Test Date, you should NOT do anything too 'heavy' in these last few days (so NO CATs and NO "cramming"). Some light practice/review would be fine, but you would likely be best served by getting some extra rest so that you can go into Test Day calm, clear-headed and ready to work.
