hi...
as for the first sc,there r two mistakes in 'c'....
.....news is singular therefore 'were' is wrong and secondly 'that' describes the preceding word ie shots whereas we r talking about news taking a long time..
'E' corrects both faults and therefore is the correct ans...

in second sc, we require use of 'twice that number' to refer to the number mentioned earlier..
i hope i have been of some help

For the first question E maintains the parallelism.. and hence is correct..
