Hello Everyone,
I am going to give my GMAT on 24th June 2019 and am expecting a really low score after giving multiple mocks whose range was 400-470. However, I don't wish to cancel or reschedule my appointment as I want to experience it first hand. Now I know that it is most likely that I will be giving a 2nd attempt and I had some doubts regarding the same.
1. While selecting the 5 schools before the test, should I choose certain schools in the first attempt and choose some others in my next? Is there a rule that in your next attempt you can't select new schools?
2. After the test, do I get to see the score first and then decide to cancel/keep the score, or is it the other way round? In that case if I choose to keep a really low score, it will get sent to those 5 schools. Even though I will give my 200% in the next attempt, will the initial low score hamper my chances in any way?
3. Even if I just don't select any schools before the test knowing that I am going to achieve my best in this attempt, and then I choose to keep my score; then in the next attempt if I choose 5 schools for the 1st time and I do choose to keep the better score, will the old one also get sent by default?
I am just clarifying certain doubts in advance so that I don't jeopardize anything due to negligence.
Thanks in advance.
Hi
SMS402,
1. You can select any program you want. Just keep in mind that once you select a program, it will receive scores from that attempt and from any other attempts in the last 5 years that you did not cancel. It will not, however, receive scores from
future attempts without your authorization. This means that if you send your first score to a particular program, it will not automatically receive your second score. You must choose that program again on (or after) your second attempt.
I suggest that you go through this post to see how this works.2.
Yes, you will be shown your score before you are asked to confirm (or cancel) your score. You can even cancel your score from home within a 72 hour window (this is a paid service). If your score is very low and you don't want your target school(s) to see it, just cancel it.
You can reinstate a cancelled score, but you can't cancel your score after that 72 hour window.
I don't think most schools really care too much about anything other than your highest score, but a very low score can't really help you, so you probably won't benefit from keeping it on your record.
3. Yes, the 5 programs that you choose on your second attempt will see every single official score that you have (limited to attempts in the last 5 years). They will not be able to see any scores that you cancelled.
All the best.
