Hi Experts,

This is very unlucky tragedy happening with me, I am in urgent need of your advice.

I am a software engineer working for a good MNC Accenture in India, having 3 year of experience. B tech in ECE, 8.1/10 GPA, good in quant, poor in verbal.

7th september (today): Purchased Official exam pack 1 and today attempted GMATprep Mock 3 scored 540(44, 21) feeling dressed, mad, clueless :x  :!: .

My exam is in 6 days on 12th sept, I dont know what should I do. :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:
I studied daily from feb month almost effective 6 hours daily mostly 3.5 hours of it effectively.
I have exhausted all my study materials. wasted lot of money buying mocks series and courses, given a sufficient time and even priority to GMAT.
I dont know what to do now :?: :?:

preparation time: 7 months
daily hours: 3.5 hours effectively out of 5 hours daily.
Past Exams scores: once rejected for not having passport, 2nd time score 500
Past GMATprep score: practice exam 1= 610 and practice exam 2=630.
upcoming Exam 12th sept: feeling depressed so see my mock marks 540

Number of question I end of getting wrong in my most of mocks:
quant 8-14 questions
Verbal 14-20 questions
Score (excluding GMATprep which is drastically low in comparison) got 660 it includes(Manhattan, Varitas, 800scores, Kaplan, Economist)

I started my preparation in the month of Feb 2013. I gave free mock from Economist Gmat and scored 550(40,25)
I was pretty comfortable solving Math than English, so I figured out that verbal need more attention while maths need little.

28Feb: To kick start my preparation I purchased Economist Course for Rs 28000. I finished my preparation in 3 months and attempted is 3 mocks scored 530, 550, 560, 580.
Felt sad that that I could not score 600 even.

8May: I started reading Manhattan books, read verbal PDFs, finished all 3 books, found SC easy than rest.
I attempted few 6 mocks from Manhattan, got 500, 520, 540, 540, 530. I found maths tough and verbal as usual a hard nut to crack.
My friends told me that Math marks I can ignore as Manhattan has the hardest of all Quant and just concentrate on Verbal.

28May: I registered for my exam for 30 June, same day purchased e-gmat verbal course and started preparing. Mid june I attempted first official Mock and score 610(46,27) felt better but my target was 700 so tied up laces to prepare next 10 days before exam. Last day before exam I attempted my 2nd Official mock and score 630, felt like lets see in exam only.

30th june: I arrived at the test center and they asked me my Passport, I said was that mentioned in any of you website or email, they said for India it is mandatory. I was about to cry       in the testing center itself, I requested them to reschedule or something, they said I have to again register for a date. For a moment I thought, Ok let it be I will prepare more and thn give my Exam.

I registered my exam for 4th Aug.

Purchased magoosh course: attempted all 500 questions and got 350 around correct in 1st go.
Revised e-gmat course fully, purchased Kaplan mock series and scored in 3 mocks 750, 750,750. even after doing so many wrongs. felt confused I doubted the algorithm.
I got 800score free mock got free with e-gmat course, I attempted mocks the story was same Q ranged 42-48, Verbal 24-29 and score ranged from 580-660.
I did a reset to previous attempted official mock and reattempted, got 580 and 580 instead of doing wrong 12 questions in quant and 16 questions in Verbal.

4th Aug: Found quant too simple, Verbal kind of easy, while giving my exam my system got a restart but exam started with the same question. In the end when I saw the score the earth just moved from beneath, shocked to see I got 500.
same day I registered for 12th Sept felt mad at myself  slapped myself and gave myself some alone time to think what I was missing.

I figured out that:
1. Quant was not tough but in most of the mocks marks ranged from 48-50, so need to prepare less for it.
2. Verbal section is always missing speed, end up not attempting 4-5 question: always SC is 70% correct CR is 60% correct, RC is 40% correct so need to be focused on CRs and RCs.

Purchased Varitas mock series 6mocks: Qant score range was 48-51, verbal 29-31 felt better but overall score was 660 around in all these mocks.

Purchased Official exam pack and today attempted GMATprep Mock 3 scored 540(44, 21) feeling dressed, mad, clueless :x  :!: .

Hi banker08,

The original poster hasn't logged onto GMATClub in over 7 years, so you might not receive a direct response from him/her.

From our prior discussion, I know that you're looking to score significantly higher on the GMAT than you are currently scoring on your CATs/mocks - and if you're looking for new study materials to work with, then it's worth noting that most GMAT Companies offer some type of free materials (practice problems, Trial Accounts, videos, etc.) that you can use to 'test out' a product before you buy it. We have a variety of those resources at our site (www.empowergmat.com). I suggest that you take advantage of all of them then choose the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget.

If you have any additional question, then just let me know.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
