GMAT strategies before test day

Question

Hi Everyone,

I am going to appear for the GMAT exam on 18th December, 2020. Would like some tips for the last 3 days before my exam, specially should i take any mocks in these days?. Plus I have come to know that the quant section in actual exam is very difficult and daunting and very different from the questions we normally encounter in any testprep, is it true?

Hello, First of all , All the very best for your GMAT Exam. By now you should have taken GMAT Official practice exams to understand your level. The GMAT test score is always + / - 30 points from your mock scores. There are no hard and fast rules that says you should not take any mocks during the last week before the exam. Having said that, i would strongly advise against taking any Mock tests apart from official practice tests during the last couple of weeks leading up to exam. Coming to your second question - The real GMAT exam is said to be difficult that official mocks but i would not agree with very different. Thats why candidate is advised to use only official sources for practice during the last stage of the prep. Thank you for your reply. But I have one question. By official mocks, do you mean the two free ones which we get while registering for the gmat exam and the rest four which we need to pay for to get access to?

Yes. GMAC gives you 2 free Prep tests and you need to buy GMAT Exam pack 3 to 6.

Hi Swetab14,

Since you are so close to your Official Test Date, you should not try to learn lots of 'new' things. In addition, the process of taking (and reviewing) a CAT requires a significant amount of energy and effort - and takes time to 'recover' from. This is one of the reasons why you typically shouldn't take more than 1 CAT per week - and your last CAT should be taken about 1 week before Test Day. Thus, in these last few days, you should limit your studies to general practice and light review (NO CATs and NO 'cramming') - you would be better served by getting some extra rest so that you can go into Test Day calm, clear-headed and ready to work.

Hi Swetab14,

Since your exam is in just 4 days, I honestly would not do anything too taxing such as taking another practice exam. Instead, keep your studying light. Review flash cards/notes from past topics to ensure knowledge has not slipped through the cracks. I also would not try to cram or learn any new material. At this point, piling on new topics would probably hurt more than it would help. Let us know how things go on test day.

Hi Swetab14, Don't do anything different in these last 3 days. Just stick to the basics. Give one mock if you feel like. Stop preparing a day prior to your test. Do not stress too much. If you have done your prep in the right way all these days, you don't have to worry about doing anything in the last days. Give your best shot. All the best
