hi guys, I took my first gmat on December 5th and got 595. I wanted to score better, specifically +650 so I decided to take it one more time. I was actually planning to take it at the end of January, around 28-30th but there is only one test center in my city and the only available slot was on January 15. So I had to take it. Yesterday I took the exam. I always start with verbal bcs I need to have a clear mind when I am taking it. It is s mainly bcs English is not my first language. Then I always take the break and cont, nue with data and finally quant because it is the one I am confident with actually. In verbal, 4-5 questions challenged me but I was literally shocked when I saw data insights bcs the questions were way much longer and harder than the ones I saw on mocks or practice questions. So I was literally frustrated. Quant did not challenged me and I was able to solve the questions. In my first gmat I had troubles with timing in data and quant. at least this time I had enough time to "try" to solve the questions. Then, I received my score, 565. I am sad now. I knew I didn’t perform well yesterday but still it hurts. Surprisingly, I also saw that verbal did not go as I assumed and I made more mistakes than I expected. Data, as I expected, was horrible. I got 82,78,74 in quant, verbal, and data.,respectively. I don’t know what to do. I am also having a full-day internship right now and I studied after work everyday, when I was preparing for the exam second time. Exam is also too expensive, especially if your a unit of your currency equals 50 dollars. I don’t know if you will read the whole text, and I really appreciate it if you are, pls give me suggestions.

You should try changing the order. Quant first your strongest part, next may be DI a break and Verbal.

And don’t be in a hurry to book exam, before you start getting your target scores on your mocks

Hard GMAT Quant questions aren’t hard because the math is complex—they’re hard because they test decision-making under pressure. In Today’s episode of AMA with GMAT Ninja, we break down why strong test takers lose time on advanced Quant Problem Solving questions: chasing full solutions, missing reasoning shortcuts, falling for sophisticated traps, and realizing too late that a question is a time sink.

A safety inspector is surveying 12 buildings for safety violations. Has the inspector surveyed at least 1/4 of the area she needs to?

(1) Each of the first 3 buildings has smaller area than each of the other 9 buildings.

(2) The inspector has just finished surveying the first 3 buildings.

Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.

Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.

BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement alone is sufficient.

EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.

Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.

Why how about I make 111, and 444444

Then it will not be 25%

To target something around 615, there isn’t a leeway that you don’t practice the harder questions. The only freedom you get is more number of mistakes that you can afford. If you will practice just upto 655 705 level questions, there is no guarantee that you’ll be able to handle all of the questions of that level or below in the real exam.

I suggest, practice more on medium level questions like 655 to 705 and keep a check on some/a few of the 755+ questions banks too.

A typical ratio; not a thumb rule; 5 Easy 7 Medium, 3 Hard, batch of 15 topic wise should suffice

Hi wowoche,

Although your score went down, you're not too far from your target score (595 - 655). However, you may be relying too much on quant. I think it'd be a good idea to push the next attempt back a bit and work on both verbal and DI before retaking.

Hi Ja8rf9,

I agree with GMATFE2025. You should focus on medium questions, but you shouldn't completely ignore easy/hard questions.

I just gave my GMAT and got a 615 - not very proud of it - maths 82 di 80 verbal bled me out

Not sure what was it - but I felt scared during the exam - it seemed difficult to take

I have respect for all the ppl getting a 695 now - maybe I am just meant for this - it’s a gauge of capacity and aptitude after all
