The oldest extant iteration of Gameco’s coding engine is forty years old. The fact that the code used in this engine frequently uses lower-level programming languages indicates that Gameco formulated its coding practices at least ten years before the aforesaid coding engine was produced. Keep in mind, Gameco adopted its coding engine from Crytek; presumably, alongside the coding engine, Gameco also adopted Crytek’s then-current practices regarding the programming languages employed. And although Crytek coding was originally an amalgamation of lower- and higher-level languages, forty years ago, Crytek was consistently using higher-level languages, and had been doing so for about ten years.

In the argument given, the two portions in boldface play which of the following roles?

(A) The first and the second each describe evidence used to challenge the position that the argument seeks to establish.
(B) The first is evidence on which an objection to the position that the argument seeks to establish is based; the second is that position.
(C) The first and the second each provide evidence supporting the position that the argument seeks to establish.
(D) The first is evidence on which an objection to the position that the argument seeks to establish is based; the second is a consideration the argument introduces to counter the force of that evidence.
(E) The first provides evidence supporting the position that the argument seeks to establish; the second is that position.

Many have suggested that increased qualification standards have been the primary cause of the present recruitment shortfall in the navy. However, the shortage has actually been caused by the facts that in recent years, seamen have not experienced any improvements in the work environment and that their salaries have not kept pace with salaries in the other branches of the armed forces.

Which of the following, if true, would most support the claims above?

A. Many seamen already in the navy would not have been recruited under the new qualification standards.
B. Many seamen have cited low pay and confined workspace as reasons for leaving the navy.
C. Some seamen have cited increased standards for qualification as a reason for the current recruitment shortfall.
D. Today more seamen are joining the navy with a higher educational level than in the past.
E. Many prospective seamen have cited the new qualification standards as a reason for not joining the navy.

A common contention among economists is that if they could build an accurate mathematical model that accounted for all economic variables, they could effectively foretell the results of any economic action. But this meaningless conjecture cannot be evaluated because any inadequate predictions would obviously be blamed on imperfections in the model.

Which of the following, if true, would cast the most serious doubt on the economists’ conjecture?

A. The monetary supply produced and maintained by nations across the world is carefully observed and known to be inconsistent.
B. With existing economic models, large scale economic shifts can be predicted with greater accuracy than can relatively local changes in the economy.
C. As existing economic models improve, even small increments in complexity will require large increases in the number of computers required to implement the improved models.
D. Frequent, precise data regarding the decisions of governments and major corporations, as well as accurate predictions regarding upcoming climactic changes, are a prerequisite for constructing an accurate economic model.
E. Irrational human behavior, unexpected natural disasters, and several other processes that also cannot be quantified accurately are known to significantly and continuously affect the economy.

Research shows that experimental stem cell procedures designed to repair organ damage primarily affect the integrity of the organ tissue rather than the growth of individual cells within the tissue. Therefore, analyzing the effects of such treatments on the health of the individual cells is irrelevant. Rather, the effectiveness of these treatments should only be assessed at the tissue level.

Which of the following would it be most useful to establish in order to evaluate the argument?

A. Whether two methods to measure the integrity of the treated tissue usually give similar judgment
B. Whether the health of individual cells can be effectively analyzed without introducing factors that may impact cell health positively or negatively
C. Whether the health of individual cells affects the integrity of organ tissue
D. Whether some organs can repair comparable levels of damage without the treatment
E. Whether the research has shown that the stem cell procedure effective in treating one organ can repair damage to another organ

Hi distinctioquia,

Have you solved all the official GMAT RC material? If you have, you could look at doing some GRE passages for practice.

Salmon meat is frequently used in gourmet cooking and retails at high prices. Meat from less valuable white fish, however, can be dyed to give it salmon’s distinct red/pink hue. Only experienced chefs are able to distinguish between genuine salmon and counterfeit salmon prepared in this manner. However, only ten percent of white fish caught can be dyed and much of the meat from these fish is not of a high enough quality for making the treatment worthwhile. Thus, surely the vast majority of salmon sold is genuine.

A serious flaw in the reasoning of the argument is that

A. comparisons between the price of salmon sold for gourmet cooking and its value for personal consumption are not mentioned
B. it does not consider the difficulty that a chef would have in distinguishing between genuine salmon and dyed white fish
C. the possibility that white fish may be used in gourmet cooking, even if it has not been dyed is overlooked
D. it treats the currently available method of dying white fish to resemble salmon as if it were the only method that can be used to do so
E. it does not consider how rare white fish dyed red/pink is in comparison with how rare genuine salmon is

The participants sorted into the experimental group of a consumer focus test were instructed to use a new brand of degreasing agent to clean their car engines for a month. Afterward, the members of this group reported a drop in their cars’ acceleration speed, while the control group, those who did not use the degreasing agent, did not report any drop. The detrimental effects on the cars were attributed to a petroleum solvent that is the principal active ingredient in the degreasing agent.

Which of the following, if true, would best help explain how the degreasing agent might produce the observed effect?

A. Chemical analysis of the degreasing agent determined that a concentrated form of the agent was used.
B. Subjects in the focus group did not know whether they were cleaning their car engines with the new degreasing agent or some other substance that is harmless.
C. As the primary use of the degreasing agent is as a cleaning agent, its negative effects are rarely noticed by car owners.
D. The petroleum solvent that is a constituent of the degreasing agent is also sold separately as a heavy-duty industrial cleaner.
E. A high level of the petroleum solvent degrades engine components responsible for the acceleration process.

Just gave my test yesterday and scored a 470. This score is mediorce and low and i know. However i saw decline of scores drastically.

I lost hope yesterday. Is it possible to reattempt and acheive 150 marks gain in one month's timeframe? I know it is a stretch. I had magoosh prep and now it's expired yesterday itself. I had gmat club pro that expired 2 days ago as well.
PLEASE HELP ME ON HOW SHOULD I TAKE MY PREP FORWARD.
i am doing a full time job along as well. ISB YL has a deadline of 22nd Feb. I will complete my 2 years on job on 28th FEb so it is a gamble as i will not be able to serve notice period before resigning. Anyways it's a stress for the later time.

Need a little guidance on how to prep further.

Before suggesting I would like to know how long you have been preparing and what are your mock scores on an average..
