I took the test on Aug 19 at Agile technologies ,Kolkata, with preparation starting from around mid-june. First-off i brought a OG-13 book and solved went through the whole book frenetically in a span of 15 days
(my first mistake). Next i took one of the free GMAT Prep tests and scored a dismal 660. My strengths were CR and Quant , RC was OK, but SC and DS were horrible, with too many silly mistakes in DS.
I started going through the questions in GMAT Pill upon a friend's recommendation. Still SC didn't see much improvement. Finally i brought a Manhattan Guide for SC in order to access its Test Series and at the same time tried out GRockIt. Preparation started getting streamlined after that. I came to know my fundamental blunders in SC from the Manhattan Guide while GrockIt's approach of targeting weak areas helped me maintain a well round progress in the rest sections. At this point i realized why doing the OG questions first was a mistake. Unless one understands the basic concepts of CR , RC and SC first, one cannot truly unravel the high quality explanations of OG.This is because unlike other exams, GMAT is one where the 'Official answer and Official explanation' matter the most over anything else. Hence it would have been better if i had read some guides such as Manhattan and built up a few muscles from practice exercises to get a hang of the questions before going at OG.
In between preparation i also used to take Manhattan Mocks every week or so. My scores were
CAT 1-640
CAT 2-690
CAT 3-690
CAT 4-700
CAT 5-700
CAT 6-690
In the final few days i went over the last 40-50 questions of each category from OG-13.At last i took the final GmatPrep test two days before the real Gmat and scored 730. Buoyed by the positive results i decided to relax and ease the pressure. Just before the day of the exam i visited the center(Agile Technologies, Kolkata) to get a hang of the scenario and calm some nerves. Finally the exam went as expected , there were absolutely no disturbances or glitches at the test center.
