From my experience, you can make more mistakes in Quant than Verbal to achieve the same score. For me a 50 Quant could have had 9 mistakes whereas 2 mistakes in Verbal yielded about a 45.

Interesting. I made 6 errors in Q (50Q) and 4 errors in V (42V). I suppose that what separates a 48V from a 45V is the point at which the errors were made. For example, if one makes both of his 2 errors on the first and second questions (likely a 600-700 level question and 500-600 level, respectively), then this would be more costly than missing 2 highly difficult questions.
