can you give us more detail about the SAT tutoring. ie. how many students, did u start a program and manage other tutors, etc...?

also specify how this shows your leadership. we'll be able to give you better feedback this way.

Depends ... which school? how many essays do they have in total?

For eg. MIT does not want you to write about that far back. If its a school that only has 2 essays (like Yale, Cornell, etc), you may want to write about a strong leadership experience from work that is recent.

i have used an example from 2000 in one of my sloan essay (that makes it 6 years old)

it's not that MIT doesn't want you to go that far back...what i could gather from my interactions with the admissions staff...one instance going that far back is okay...don't make it a habbit or else it will appear as if you do not have any recent acheivements to talk about...it goes without saying that if you are using an older example, it has to be solid...

same goes for word limit...few words here are there is okay....don't cross the limit "unnecessarily" in all the essays...

note: that some schools do specifically mention not to use old examples..MIT is not one of them...

So, homefry....if you think that your undergrad experience is a glowing ode to your existence, you can use it...as long as Haas doesn't explicitely mention to use only recent examples

There's only 1 essay in the Berkeley essay that asks about leadership and if I put down the SAT experience, they might think I might not have had many leadership experiences.

I've had some good leadership experiences in the past year, but nothing as good as my time as an SAT instructor.

The tutor school was small so there wasn't a curriculum I could follow. I had 6-10 students depending on the time of year and made my own curriculum.

The other thing is that I'm a trader and trade a strategy worth $ 300+ million. I could talk about trading millions of dollars on the market and deciding how they get traded.

What do you think?

Both these experiences are good, I think a lot depends on (a) what you view as your strongest leadership experience; and (b) how you can relate that back to bschool.

luminos24: I read somewhere on this forum that MIT explicitly says not to go back more than 2 years on essays. you may want to double check that.

MIT specifically asks to select stories from last 2 years....
