Hi,
I got the admit from Wisconsin Business school for their Operations and Technology MBA. I was waitlisted and eventually rejected from Cornell Tech's Tech MBA program. Should I take the current offer and move on or should I re apply to Cornell Tech for next year's program.
My profile: 7 plus years of experience in Information technology with 4 plus years of product development experience and 3 plus years of consulting experience in the USA.
Goal: To get into technology company as a Product Manager.

Thanks,
VB

Have you applied to any other schools this season? Are you International student?
I am an international student, and yes I have applied to a couple more and their decision are yet pending. I have applied to Simon and Carroll.

As the rule of thumb is - don't apply to a school you are not willing to attend

Actually not a hard question to answer, what I am hearing is that you are pushing the age limit of the traditional FT MBA programs. Usually 31+ is a problem area and I can count at least 14 years of experience. I think your chances in a Full Time program are much worse next year.... your only option will be EMBA.

Take the Madison offer, apply to a European school next year (they are more open to seasoned applicants, or go to EMBA (you can still apply for this year's intake for a number of programs).
Oh BB I think I made a confusing statement. I have overall 7 plus years of experience (of which 4 years were in product development and 3 years in consulting). I am sorry for the confusion.

Thanks,
VB

Hi VB,

I have read the complete discussion on this thread, so will give my advice with that in consideration.

I'd suggest that if you are already in the US, you can apply to both FT as well as exec MBA programs. It makes sense to give up the Wisconsin admit if you are willing to apply to programs which are ranked higher than it. This includes Cornell Tech, but also do spread yourself more than just one program. NYU Stern has launched a one year Tech MBA this year - have a look at that as well.

A large number of b-schools can help you get into product management, so I don't see your options limited in any way. To give any detailed views however, I 'd need more details on your profile.

Go to Wisconsin, solid program and given your age you don't want to continue risking it. Also, what would you expect to change next year when you re-apply to Cornell? If nothing has really changed in your profile it would be tough to expect a different result
This year I applied to Cornell Tech on the last round that's why I thought of reapplying again for next year. I am planning to retake GMAT, my old score was 680. I have 7+ years of experience so is it a risk waiting for an year? Cornell Tech's program really appeals to me, that's why I was keen on trying again. Please let me know if giving up Wisconsin will be a big mistake on my side.

Thanks,
VB

I am from India and my GMAT is 680, which would be considered at a lower side.
I have 7+ years of experience out of which 4 years were in product development in Oracle India and 3+ years in consulting here in US. I am on H1B and have burned 3+ year's already. I am a Bachelor in Engineering and my overall grade is between average and above average (no GPA system). Will you be able to assess if Cornell Tech or Stern is out of reach for me.

Thanks,
VB
