Should I Retake test and try to get more on quant. Or is it sufficient for M7 b school?
I know I can do better on quant.

Hey Gmatindia379,

There is no magical number for test score (GMAT /GRE) to guarantee an admit to a top school, there are certain elements such as quality of the broader application pool and general market trends that will impact your decision and often can be beyond your control. Thus, there can be no sure shot score for an admit.
Further without knowing your other details of your profile will be difficult to comment on the competitiveness of your application for the admission cycle. By and large the score looks respectable although if you feel you can improve it why not go ahead and give it another shot (we always advice you to put your best foot forward). If you feel you can better you quant score without impacting your verbal, please go ahead and take the exam.
Do keep in mind the timelines for the upcoming admission cycle while planning your second attempt.

Hi Gmatindia379

I would like to congratulate you on your result on the GRE. Your score especially in the verbal section (about 98th percentile I think), is incredibly impressive (if you are a non-native speaker). With your strong quantitative score approaching the 94th percentile, you do not need to retake the GRE as such. But you must evaluate based on your profile's strength what is the incremental benefit of improving your GRE VS Spending time crafting a stellar application (gathering insights, writing essays, drafting resumes, and networking with the schools).

While the GRE/GMAT is an important factor, it is just one piece of the puzzle in your overall application. To maximize your chances of admission to M7 schools, you need to develop a well-thought-out strategy that encompasses your entire personal and professional narrative. This entails creating a compelling story that showcases your growth trajectory, unique qualities, achievements, initiatives, experiences, and aspirations, enabling you to stand out among the large pool of applicants.

Hi Gmatindia379,

If you are confident in your quant abilities and know that you are capable of scoring better on quant, then why not? If you have the time and resources, then go ahead and retake the test. If you score better, great. That's more points for your profile. If your score does not improve, then that's okay too. You can target many top schools with the score you have. Your chances of conversion though will depend on a lot of other factors too such as work experience, accomplishments, impact, personal background and life choices, goals etc.

No need. If you really want to (and have time or it won't require much time in general), give it a shot. At the very least, you can improve potential scholarship chances.

That said, it would be helpful to know what the rest of your profile looks like, i.e. academic performance, work experience, extracurriculars, etc. The GRE (/GMAT) is just one component of your overall candidacy.

Are you applying R1 of this year? If so, you really should be dedicating your focus on upcoming applications. That's going to be a huge time commitment. The GRE should be secondary.

No score, as such, is 'sufficient'; schools evaluate one's case in a holistic fashion and your profile (including work experience, achievements, education) is equally important.

There is a reason the Admissions process requires an Application, with Essays, LORs, Career Goals, Profiles etc, and NOT JUST a GMAT/GRE score. In other words, the competitiveness of your profile is built on many pillars, and the score is just one of them. 331 is overall a better than decent score, and at this point building compelling application stories, LORs etc would give you a greater ROI on your time invested, compared to the time you spend on potentially improving the score by a bit.
