Great GMAT but Not Do or Die

Dear Aspirants,

It is my observation that a lot of people failed the exam not because they have poor abilities but because they could not cope with the pressure of writing the exam. What I mean is this; a lot of people take the exam as a Do or Die affair. Don't get me wrong, while giving your all to the exam, don't forget it is not do or die affair.

You should work hard, you should sacrifice your time, energy and all your resources but you shouldn't forget it is not the end of the world. When you approach the exam with the mindset that you must pass or hit 700, it puts you under enormous pressure that may eventually work against you. The brain will not be able to concentrate. During the exam you suddenly remember your parents, friends and families waiting on you for the result especially because the last couple of questions didn't go down well. Sometimes you remember all your sacrifices and it puts you under so much pressure that you even failed simple concepts.

GMAT is great; a good score in GMAT is a life changer but remember you cannot put yourself under so much pressure because of the invested funds or the expectation of a better future.

I will candidly advice that all aspirants preparing for the exam to approach it with patience and psyched up mental faculty that the exam is not a Do or Die affair. Having prepared very well, tell yourself about how good you are and the great things you have achieved in life without the GMAT. Tell yourself that the exam doesn't determine where you get to in life, it is only a tool. Tell yourself you will still be proud of the result for whatever reason. Smile on the questions and the tricks. Try at best to be relaxed and don't panic. If possible don't tell too many people about the exam to reduce the expectations placed on you.

Look at this 2 sceneries, one person told everyone at home and at the office that he was going for the exam, he failed after writing the exam and the first thoughts that came to his mind was how will he tell everyone at home and at the office that he failed. And the second person took leave and did not tell anyone at the office and did not tell friends. She passed well. She then told everyone. I am not saying the first person failed or the second person passed because of that. What I am saying is that, it takes a lot of the pressure off you giving you a better mental balance. It doesn't take away the fact that you have to work hard and learn all the tricks of the exam but it sure gives you a psychological advantage.

I may not be totally correct, but my whole essence of writing this is to tell everyone writing the exam to look beyond the GMAT exam and give yourself more confidence and a better chance of success by taking the pressure off you.
