{NOUN 1} + As well as / Along with + {NOUN 2} + Verb

Note + As well as / Along with does not affect the SVA with Noun 1

Dear Friends,

Here is a detailed explanation to this question-

bb
Group climate, as well as individual affective factors, such as motivation and attitude, are often quoted to be potential determinants in applying critical or non-critical thinking behaviours in learning processes.

A. , as well as individual affective factors, such as motivation and attitude, are often quoted to be potential determinants in applying

B. and also individual affective factors, such as motivation and attitude, are often quoted as potential determinants to apply

C. , as well as individual affective factors, like motivation and attitude, are often quoted as potential determinants to apply

D. , along with individual affective factors, like motivation and attitude, are often quoted as potential determinants in applying

E. and individual affective factors, such as motivation and attitude, are often quoted as potential determinants in applying

Choice A: This answer choice features a subject-verb disagreement between "Group climate" and "are"; remember, in the English language, the only conjunction that can join singular nouns into one plural entity is "and". Thus, this answer choice is incorrect.

Choice B: This answer choice is redundant, as it utilizes both "and" and "also"; both of these conjunctions convey the same information. Thus, this answer choice is incorrect.

Choice C: This answer choice repeats the conjunction error that is seen in Option A. This answer choice also uses the word "like" to refer to an example. Thus, this answer choice is incorrect.

Choice D: This answer choice repeats the errors seen in Option C. Thus, this answer choice is incorrect.

Choice E: This answer choice uses the conjunction "and", maintaining the subject-verb agreement and uses the appropriate term "such as" to refer to the examples. Thus, this answer choice is correct.

Hence, E is the best answer choice.

LIKE VS SUCH AS, ADDITIVE PHRASES, IDIOMS

Group climate, as well as individual affective factors, such as motivation and attitude, are often quoted to be potential determinants in applying critical or non-critical thinking behaviours in learning processes.

A. , as well as individual affective factors, such as motivation and attitude, are often quoted to be potential determinants in applying -------- Verb number is wrong. The subject is a singular "climate" . An additive phrase such as "as well as" does not compound a subject to make it a plural.

B. and also individual affective factors, such as motivation and attitude, are often quoted as potential determinants to apply ------ Incorrect idiom "determinants to"

C. , as well as individual affective factors, like motivation and attitude, are often quoted as potential determinants to apply ----- "like" should not be used to give examples. Additionally, Verb number is wrong. The subject is a singular "climate" . An additive phrase such as "as well as" does not compound a subject to make it a plural.

D. , along with individual affective factors, like motivation and attitude, are often quoted as potential determinants in applying ----- "like" should not be used to give examples. Additionally, Verb number is wrong. The subject is a singular "climate" . An additive phrase such as "along with" does not compound a subject to make it a plural

E. and individual affective factors, such as motivation and attitude, are often quoted as potential determinants in applying ------ CORRECT
