Ideally , you should'nt go upto to the 3 minute mark on more than 3-4 questions . Also it is more advisable to take "educated guesses" on Data Sufficiency questions rather than Problem Solving questions

On the verbal side , it's more difficult to allocate time . The best candidates for guesses on the verbal section are Bold Face CR Questions , Evaluate the argument , mimic the reasoning and those dreaded "Except" questions . I feel you should never skip a SC or RC question . Another interesting tip ( note : use this only when you are very desperately short on time - Answers (D) and (E) have a higher probability of being right on SC questions in which the full sentence is underlined).

Dear George- So you have any basis for your recommendation that D or E will be most probable right answers for completely underlined SC questions? Or just as per your experience? I am skeptical over this though it would be of very help if I could convince myself.

When I'm left with very little time and a lot of questions to do what I do is solve every alternate question or guess on every alternate question, depending on how you look at it. I came across this strategy in one of the Aristotle Prep books and I find this extremely useful as it gives me more time to do each question and also reduces the probability of my getting all or most of these questions wrong. Though, I agree, the ideal situation is to not end up with such a situation in the first place by managing your time effectively on the test, something that is easier said than done.
