I completely understand your pain and challenge. But first of all congratulations. I think you could easily go to all of these programs. Obviously Ross is a bit of a weaker option but with a big scholarship, it is looking attractive as well.
I’m not sure if there’s been much Covid impact about dislodging it from Palo Alto area and California but historically that’s where it’s been and historically it’s been very challenging to break into it. A lot of times they advice I’ve heard it was not to be overly focused on VC and consider plan B as well. I think the reason is that venture capital is fairly elite and it is that would be some thing hard to break into from scratch and you need to get a break somehow like an internship for some thing you can do on the side almost to make yourself more recruiteble and attractive. We will be competing with Harvard, Stanford and your classmates for a handful of positions. It would be good to have some kind of a competitive advantage. Interestingly enough, I’ve heard of one person getting hired into company because of their education background. Do used to be a teacher and they were getting hired into an education space. That gave them an advantage because the role was very specific.
However if you really want to pursue VC, it is hard to be conservative or safe. It is a chance but one you have to have the highest rank and pedigree so I would advocate for Sloan or Booth to leverage their networks and have at least some parity with HBS and Stanford recruits ….
