Thanks for the replies. I'm going to put an application in, have to make sure I get a good score on the GMAT first.

From the replies it sounds like the odds get slimmer but it is possible and the main schools it's an issue for are HBS and stanford. Stanford has a small class and from what I have read seem more picky.

Those applying, good luck in your applications.

gmatt, also remember that people who are 30+ apply to FT MBA programs in much smaller numbers than younger applicants. Fewer applicants means smaller numbers in the class. It doesn't necessarily mean your chances are diminished. Also we are assuming that acceptance rates are lower for older applicants due to their age. However, older applicants could simply have a tendency to not clearly convey the need for an MBA at this point in their careers. This could be the reason why they aren't accepted not their age. You just don't know unless you apply.

I'll be 30 in September and managed to get into HBS, and according to our classcards there are several in my class who finished undergrad a year or two before me. I met a few 30+ first-years when I went there in February for my interview. So being 30 isn't a disqualifier by any means, especially if you can clearly explain why you're going for an MBA now rather than 4 years ago.

I think I have a good reason. Will have to make sure it comes across in the application.

Fair point, only way we would find that out is if they published stats on the number of applicants who apply depending on their year of graduation from undergrad then we could compare it to the graph of accepted applicants. But the truth is the classe are going younger but there is still a chance.

Overall theres not much point speculating on exact numbers. A general overview of any bias is good to know. As long as you submit a strong application and then leave it to the adcom.

This question has probably been asked a few times. Upon entry if I get a place for 2012. I will be 30. Will this hinder my application to the top schools.

I've read that columbia should be ok. But schools like HBS and stanford will make it difficult. It takes time to prepare an application and costs a fair amount. So before targeting any schools I wanted to see if it's worthwhile.

UK candidate.
8 years work exerience
Investment Banking 6 years
Entrepreneur 2 years
Undergraduate Degree Upper Second equivalent to GPA 3.3-3.8 there is no exact measure. Schools like LBS in the UK ask for a upper second.
Good extra currilcular activities
2 referees have indicated I will get a strong reference, looking for a third

My other option is to do a 1 year MBA in europe Insead/Oxford/IMD/LBS(2 years)

But only if these institutions are worth the cost.

Hello

I think you should read this article, it will be helpful:

https://futureworks.co.in/knowledgecente ... ondays.htm

Have you taken you gmat? If you are aiming for top schools a score above 700 would be advisable. Your academics, beyond academics and work experience play a crucial role in determining your candidature so make sure you highlight it well.

Start thinking what makes you unique and what’s that ‘hook’ that will be key to your application.
