We've been looking for the threads too, but in vain. There was one group on WSO that supposedly has a few more applicants, but it's a private group and it looks like the admin doesn't really check it anymore so none of us can get access. If you find some other thread, please let us know. :)

Was anyone in chat when the invitations were announced? I heard a few kids with high stats(3.7+ gpa and 750+ gmat) didnt make the cut. Anyone have any details. Thanks

And whiplash what were your stats/background? Major? GPA? school?

Yeah. A couple of us were on that chat when the invitations went out.

I'm from a large, top 15 engineering school in the US. Civil engineering + 3 minors. 3.8+ GPA, 760 GMAT. 1 engineering internship, 2 study abroad experiences and 2 social entrepreneurship initiatives in the developing world (with travel). Lead on an international research project. Involvement with a large charity. 3 artistic hobbies I've pursued since I was four. Couple of important awards from my school for the social entrepreneurship projects.

No idea, sorry. There's like no information on who got in and who didn't. Online, at least.

Hi all,

As a first post, I would like to inform all that I am applying for round 1.

Some stats for who's interested:

Nationality: Dutch
University: Utrecht University
Degree: B.Sc (Major: Information Sciences, Minor: Economics)
GPA: 4.0
Honors program: 'Descartes College' (University-wide)

Overall status: working on essays and GMAT.
GMAT test date: August 19.

If anything is missing let me know...

Now that that's said let me start by saying that I find this year's application more challenging than last year's. Especially the part where they ask you about three failures. How have you guys approached this question, where did you get your inspiration from? Sure I've failed at communication at some point or projects didn't go as well as I'd hoped, but it all seems not enough of a story. Especially for college juniors/seniors it's hard to get some meaningful failures i.m.o. ;-).

Quite the contrary, I think the setbacks question was something I was able to answer fairly ... quickly. Note that there's a difference between setbacks and failures. Setbacks are seen as an obstacle to achieving something you want, while failures are the inability to do so. For my setbacks, I drew from two personal life experiences and one professional/academic experience.

Thanks! :)

As for extra curricular and work experience:

- I am currently in Beijing, China where I manage a project called 'Green Power Now' to increase the environmental awareness of Chinese High School students
- Currently work on a project that I set up with 5 students and leading strategic consultancy firm to increase the sustainability of the city of Utrecht
- Currently also in board of directors of the IT firm that I did a research project for (see below)
- Some Java programming internships
- Volunteer work 3 years (working with chronically ill children and delivering them 'one day of joy' (freely translated))
- Set up my own research project supervised by a professor to research the market entry barriers a large IT was facing with a new product
- Committee member external affairs of study association 'A-Eskwadraat'
- Summer School in Music Information Retrieval at Utrecht University
- Help organise scientific conference on music information retrieval
- Summer School in Physics and English at University of California, Los angeles

Awards:
- 'Best student science department 2011' -> Invited to participate in 'Bright Student Conference in Lund, Sweden'
- 'Best CEO - Strategic Management Game of Utrecht University'

Unfortunately The Netherlands isn't really much of an 'award' culture. 'Average' is the norm here which is something I seek to change.

Still can't really tell whether this is good or not. What do you think?

You have a good profile. It ultimately comes down to crafting compelling essays and having an above average GMAT score (though, this matters to a much lesser extent, I think - with your GPA, it's clear that you're academically proficient). Good luck :)
