Yes, agreed easier to move to UK/Europe from top US business school and I honestly feel that PM is easier to achieve from US b school. If you plan to move later on really other choices will determine this - and your work. But it would be good to ensure there is a decent alumni base in said country.

You skipped my question about value-add to your profile by waiting a year. I think applying earlier will help but as they say, submit the same application get the same result.

Sorry to hear about the UK school disappointment.

OK what is the most important thing for you is it living in Europe or the career goal of being a product manager? I am Magine that you must have applied to the UK schools and didn’t get any traction there? Because that seems like the most obvious path to me. I’m a little surprised about what you say about CMU because it’s generally known as a school that’s decent for product management but maybe that’s just Amazon focused. Have you done all the digging on that? For what it’s worth one of my former clients is a manager at Kearney and he said that he favors applicants from CMU. Not sure why but there it is. I do think that you could get into a better program if you reapply if your profile is more competitive this year than it was last year. I know the NBA applications are very draining so I think about whether this past year has added much to your overall value as an applicant. With a 740 you could do a little better in terms of ranked schools, just as a FYI all programs are stem now so that’s not really a competitive advantage for CMU specifically. The key here is to apply early. You need to apply to early action round and round one because there are a lot of people out there with your profile. Or something similar in likely to have a higher GMAT so of course articulate your value the best you can and apply to a variety of schools and make sure to include early rounds. Like Darden Duke and the September 1 deadline for Tuck. Hope this helps. Also I really liked Pittsburgh when I was there :-)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

In terms of my career goals I definitely value being product manager more than being in Europe and as per my understanding from talking to Alumni from some B schools both in Europe and US, getting to Europe post MBA from a top B school in US is easier than getting to US post MBA from a top B school Europe and hence I am preferring US schools over HEC Paris. Do you have any thoughts on this pointer from your experience?

Also, can you also shed some light on lifetime value of an MBA from Tepper vs other slightly better ranked schools such as Duke/Darden, I understand that right after MBA the opportunities are fairly similar especially in product management but does it add value say 10 years post MBA? I am okay to drop this year and try out again but I am not getting a clear picture as to what the value add would be from Duke/Darden or better ranked schools vs Tepper. Any pointers from your experience would really help :)

I did apply to LBS and Cambridge this year but unfortunately got dinged at both of them :( I will definitely give them a shot again if i apply next year.

Another path i'm considering is to ask for deferral at HEC and Tepper, I did reach out to them on this but haven't heard back yet. I think this would be the best approach since it gives me that cushion to aim big next year albeit I will lose one year post MBA experience. Fingers crossed that they'll reply positively.

And thanks for the input on early rounds, I do aim to close out my applications in R1 and EA wherever applicable (Duke, Darden, and Tuck)

On the value-add to my profile, I'm working on 3 aspects:

1. GMAT score - I wrote the GMAT a couple more times post my previous application but was unsuccessful in improving thus far, I do have 2 more attempts before I hit the GMAT lifetime limit, so hoping that things work out in the next attempt
2. New role at work - I have taken up a new role at work which includes stakeholders in multiple countries and also the role is different from the ones I had done prior to my last application so this adds a few pointers to talk about in the application (unfortunately i'm not up for a promotion anytime before the next application so can't show growth from this point of view)
3. Extra curriculars - I am putting efforts to spruce this element quite a bit, I created my own NGO in the last year to work on the financial independence space and I do have a few pointers to quote from this experience.

In addition to the above pointers, do you have any suggestions on how to differentiate myself from the previous application? I can utilise the next couple of months to work on the same. Thanks again for your valuable inputs :)

OK this sounds good meaning if you chose to reapply this is a material enough difference from the previous application. If you think it makes sense try the GRE route; many do much better there even w/o studying for that in particular. But you really with a 740 you should get something if you are doing a good enough job on the application, interview and applying earlier. I do think it would be good to have a pro review some of your dinged applications to provide a blueprint on the next round. (but there is nothing wrong with going for Tepper). And, I can't really provide any specialised feedback because I don't know what you submitted or really know you at all. I invite you to to sign up for a consultation however.
Ps: not sure what you mean by pointers in what you wrote? My usual understanding for that means "tips" or "advice"
