Hi friends,

I’m doing applications this year for the top European schools. I will be applying to LBS and INSEAD but I am an ORM, and my GMAT is not the highest. So, expanding for risk.

If geography was not a barrier - which of these schools would give one the best shot at moving into consulting from a general strategy and ops role? Geography agnostic.

From my LinkedIn research, Oxbridge alumni seem few and far between in the MBB - especially in continental EU. And the Middle East presence doesn’t look too great either, albeit that the parent universities of both have stellar reputations.

On the contrary, HEC P seems to be quite representative especially in the Middle East.

Would love your thoughts - cheers.

@idliboba - HEC alum here. Some thoughts:

1. LBS and INSEAD have very strong consulting networks, with INSEAD's being stronger in the Middle-East. Having said that, the duration of these programs are different - INSEAD is shorter (10 months, or 12 months for the J-batch), compared to HEC (16 months), LBS (~ 2 years) and Oxbridge (1 year). If you prefer optionality and time to explore internships etc., this is a factor to consider.

2. Compared to Oxbridge, HEC has a stronger presence in consulting (MBBs, Kearney, etc.) both in the Middle-East and Europe/ UK, due to its broader (MBA/ MiM/ Masters) alum-base. My recent chat with HEC Adcom indicated that the school had good MBB hiring last year (including in the Middle-East and Latam regions): the official employment stats will be released soon.

3. I would also suggest adding IESE to the mix, given their strong consulting presence, particularly in the Middle-East.

Hope this helps a bit. Feel free to reach out through the link(s) below for a deeper chat.

Regards,
Arvind
