Hi!

Today I finally gave my exam and it was really disappointing. I scored 600 (Q42 V31) and I was way behind my target of 700.

It feels like I've hit a wall because no matter what I try, I am not able to improve my score. I feel totally alien to this exam now because I think its not for me or I don't have the potential to crack it. I did not take your course earlier because I knew I would not be able to complete it till my exam and I would have wasted money (which I still did as it took me PKR 40,000 to prepare and pay exam fee).

I need 700 because I am applying in top business schools of Europe and that too by the next month. Please advise me according to my goals. I need 700 and I have around one month. Please suggest best online resources/websites/courses or the ones that can specifically help me.

Thank You.

Hi Fazal123,

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day did not go as well as hoped. Raising a 600 to a 700+ will likely require at least another 2 months of consistent, guided study - and you'll have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. By extension, the goal of improving 100+ points in just 1 month might be too difficult to be considered realistic. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level; however, to hit your Score Goal, you will likely need more time than you've allotted. Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
5) What are the exact application deadlines for each of those Schools?

I have been roughly studying on and off from like 4 months but in total I have given atleast 200 hrs to preparation. My diagnostic score was 520. I have complete OG 18 and Manhattan Guides. My average on CATs (veritas, Manhattan, Kaplan and GMATPrep) was around 600 with Q45 V30 on average. I just wasn't able to improve from 600. But in last CATs of GMATPrep I got 640 and I was hopeful that I might get a reasonable score but it didn't happen.

I am applying mostly in Europian B Schools deadlines are scattered from Feb to June but I have to give TOEFL and prepare application as well (some include essays, recommendation letters etc.) that's I want to get over with it by next month.

Hi Fazal123,

When I asked about your practice CAT Scores, I was not interested in your 'average' score. Seeing how you CAT scores change (or don't change) over the course of your studies can help to define how you may have gotten 'stuck' at this particular score level. As such, I have a few additional questions about how you took your CATs:

1) On what date did you take each of your CATs and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for each)?
2) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?
3) Did you take them at home?
4) Did you take them at the same time of day as when you took your Official GMAT?
5) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)?
6) Did you ever take a CAT more than once? Had you seen any of the questions BEFORE (re: on a prior CAT, in an online forum or in a practice set)?

Hi Fazal123,

I’m sorry to hear how things went with your GMAT. I am happy to provide some advice but would like to learn more regarding your situation with the GMAT. Once you answer the questions asked, I can provide some advice on how to move forward with your prep.

Regarding prep materials, in addition to seeking out advice in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant and verbal courses, and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.

You also may find it helpful to read this article about
how to score a 700+ on the GMAT.

Good luck!

Fazal, I will just say three golden words Dont Give up!!!

Can you just give more info regarding your prep
1. What was your initial gmatprep mock score
2. How many months you studied
3. Which resources you referred
4. What was your scores in mock after prep
5. Did u take your mocks in exam conditions?

jumping from 600 to 700 will be difficult in short span of time but not impossible if you get a hold of your weak areas!!!
Looking forward to advise!!!
