How can I increase my exam day score?

Question

Hi,
These are my practice test scores
2 - 710 Q49 V38 - 26th Aug
3 - 730 Q51 V37 - 28th Aug
4 - 720 Q49 V40 - 1st Sep
5 - 740 Q49 V42 - 4th Sep
6 - 710 Q49 V38 - 6th Sep

Any suggestions? I have my exam on the 8th of Sep.

I have been missing Q51 due to some very silly mistakes like calculation errors or missing one small question detail. I know the concepts and properties well just miss out on small things. I also tend to rush through in maths, usually have 10 mins remaining at the end of the section.

hi its not clear which mock exam scores are they? given the quant score you getting , it seems to be good .. you can improve by working on your timing and focus on first 10 questions more i.e. answer them correctly ... this will surely impact your overall quant score.. all the best for 8th

Hi somya_dengre,

Since you are now so close to your Official Test Date, you should not try to do too much studying. In these last couple of days, you should limit your studies to general practice and light review (NO CATs and NO 'cramming') - you would be better served by getting some extra rest so that you can go into Test Day calm, clear-headed and ready to work.

Using question/time markers may be helpful. In a sense, try to "use" the extra 10 minutes you usually have at the end of Quant during the section. If you feel your fundamentals are solid, consider working on your solving approach. May boost your score a bit.

An update: I got 700 (Q49, V36) on my official test. Any suggestions on how can I increase it to 750 on my next test? Should I order an ESR? I am sure I messed up SC and RC in verbal.

When should I retake the exam? I am planning to apply in R2

The ESR may be helpful. You could also share it here after wiping any personal info. If you feel your fundamentals are solid, consider working on your solving approach. May boost your score a bit. Had a 6-hour student who went from a V41 to a V45 in about 10 days for example. Perhaps work with a study buddy who is really strong on Verbal. If they need help with Quant, that could be a good fit. There's a study buddy thread on gmatclub you can check out/sign up to.

First off, a 700/Q49 is an outstanding Score, so you can comfortably apply to any Business Schools that interest you. As such, a retest is probably not necessary. Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement (and the more time that you have to act on that advice, the better). Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) Did you take any other CATs/mocks besides the ones that you listed?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

If you took your Official GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Well, one thing I have learnt to do is to stimulate the exam environment as acutely as possible when I am studying at home. Constant noise, interruption, chaos. Expect the worst.
