I am a non engineering background candidate struggling badly with my quant scores. my scores are pretty inconsistent. Please help me achieve a Q49 - Q50.

Hello Shulagna21


In order to achieve Q49 - Q50, starting from Q30, you will first need to work on fundamentals.


Best way to do so is to either sign for online course or self study via books, whatever you prefer in terms of style and cost.


Regarding books, I would recommend to go through whole Manhattan set of quant books supplemented by GMAT Club's Math Book.

Regarding online courses, I would also recommend Manhattan for quant, for instance Manhattan Prep GMAT Manhattan GMAT 9-Session Prep Course, but you can also read reviews here on forum, start few trial options and then decide for yourself, which prep company works best for you, of course if you decide that you actually need one.


Once you are solid on fundamentals and theory, you should practice official questions, from OG's.


Regarding mocks, you should do Official GMAC ones and Manhattan and GMAT Club tests for quant drill.

Hi
In order to improve from Q30, you need to focus on the fundamentals. You can refer the Ultimate Gmat Quant megathread for theory. It covers all topics of the Gmat. Alternatively you can study from the MGMAT guide books. They are also comprehensive and have very good reviews. Then you can start solving questions from the OG in a timed manner. Also, follow the Quant forum experts and moderators and solve the questions they post for practice. In that way you will know the effective way of solving any question.

Thank you both billionaire and souvonik2k. I have registered for egmat course. Yet I am struggling with the quant. Geometry, algebra and statistics are my strengths. I struggle a lot with inequalities, and number properties questions. My scores dropped down because of those. Once the scores come in post any quant exam or quiz my confidence dips down more. I need a 720+ for applying this cycle and I have only two months at hand.

Just so you know, inequalities are part of algebra, your (current) strong side. :-)

E-gmat is known to be praised for verbal, here on forum, usually by Indian applicants....I don't know how beneficial it will be for your quant boost purpose, but I guess you did your research beforehand ;)

Hi Shulagna21,

You can try out the Math revolution course as it is phenomenal and covers the entire syllabus really well. Plus it has great reviews on GMATCLUB. I must add that if you are particularly looking to discover and improve on your weak areas in Quant; a subscription to GMATCLUB tests is the best way to do that. They are indeed phenomenal and will not only pinpoint your weak areas but also help you improve on them.

Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas.

Further another advantage of taking many mocks is to build up your stamina. Apart from the GMATPREP tests, taking practise tests of any major GMATPREP company ought to do that.

Lastly I would also encourage you to purchase the latest version of OG and the Quant review for some great additional practice. Here is a link that will help you with your decision.
