Check your credit report and dispute every error you find.
Pay your bills on time.
Pay off your credit card balances.
Stop applying for credit.
Ask a relative or friend who has good credit habits to add you as an authorized user on their credit card.

Are you sure this is an analogy?

Hey everyone!

Hope you're doing good!

I need a suggestion(your own or a reference of a post) from experts on what should I be doing when I am stuck at a specific score in mocks.
Here's a table of all the mocks that I gave and the result:

mba.com mock 1 without preparation 540(Q35, V29)
mba.com mock 2 660(Q44,V37)
Manhattan mock 1 540(Q32, V29) - I was suffering from a high fever due to covid when I gave this mock and couldn't really focus.
Veritas free mock 590(Q43, V29)
Kaplan free mock 740(Q49, V43)
Egmat free mock 600(Q44, V28)

I am not getting a consistent score to identify where I stand, as per me I think my actual score at this point is somewhere around 600.

It would be great if I can get some advice/suggestions.

Thanks and regards
Shruti

Hi Shruti.

It's very simple.
You don't have to know your score and keep taking different mocks, because you're not ready for the actual Test yet. You're only wasting valuable mocks especially official mocks.

Mocks would give you a real judgement only if you're throgh with all the topics?

Are you through all the topics?
Quant ? Verbal ? Sc ? RC? CR? Arithmetic? Algebra? Probably? Etc etc.
Only then you can actually test yourself where you stand.

Hey

Yes I am through these topics, maybe I haven't solved tough questions or variety of questions. Not sure where the issue lies specially in Verbal.

Hi Shruti,

Based on the information you have provided it seems as though your study plan revolves around taking many practice exams and it may be possible that you are taking practice tests before you are truly ready to do so. I'm happy to provide some advice but would first like to learn more about your situation with the GMAT.

-- for how long have you been studying?

-- what resources have you been using?

-- what were the dates of each of your practice exams?

Once I have that information, I can provide some additional advice.

Hi Shrutiejha,

We last discussed your studies back in late January - and at that time, you stated that your Score Goal was 720 and that you were planning to take the GMAT in March or April. Is that still your Score Goal and did you end up taking the Official GMAT (if you did, then how did you score?)?

The scoring algorithm on the Official GMAT is far more complicated than most people realize. Since that algorithm is proprietary, no GMAT company has an exact match for it, thus CAT scores can vary a bit based on the 'biases' involved in their respective designs. There are also a variety of different factors that can impact your performance on a practice CAT, but before we get into any of those potential issues, I'd like to know a bit more about how you've been studying over the last 4 months:

1) What type of study routine have you been following? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) Is your overall goal score still 720 or is it something else?
4) When are you planning to take the GMAT?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi Shruti,

If your score has been stagnant for a while now, it means that there is something wrong with your study strategy. Below are a few probable reasons behind the stagnant score.

  • Not having a proper study plan
  • Focusing more on practicing questions than on the process
  • Not working on your weak areas

I suggest you to not take any more mocks as of now. The first thing to do is to identify your weak areas and work on them. An important part of your prep is identifying what you are struggling with - understanding the concepts or applying them. For instance -

  • If you are struggling with concepts (accuracy < 50%), the obvious thing to do is to revisit the concepts.
  • If you are struggling with application of concepts (accuracy ranging between 50% -80%), then you must analyze the solutions of each question you attempt from that topic.

Having said that, it would be really premature to suggest you anything without knowing the complete details. Please provide me a few more details such as:

  • your current study strategy
  • your weak areas in both Quant and Verbal
  • the number of hours you can dedicate for studies in a day
  • When are you planning to take the GMAT?

You can write back to me here or a better way is to discuss the same over a call. You can schedule a free consultation call with me using the link below.
