Dear Nilesh:
Firstly, we want you to feel good that the GMAT score of 690 is NOT a bad score. It is in the competitive range of most business schools. Regarding the break-up, most of the candidates from non-native countries encounter similar challenges. Therefore, the schools look at the profile in a holistic way before making any judgements. Your profile and background is important and then the GMAT score plays a vital role. For example, if you have strong engg. undergrad, then a bad Quant score doesn't mean much. Likewise, you come from arts background, then the good Quant score is a positive indicator. In ascertaining your intellectual capability, the academics scores + the GMAT score are looked at inclusively and not in isolation.
In addition, what is important is to admissions process is your pitch (story why schools should look at your profile), what makes you unique - career plan, leadership/team skills, why MBA now, why specific business school?
Regarding the school shortlisting, we recommend a match of your career goals and how the skills can be developed at the respective business schools.
