Let the average speed be s and time taken be t for a distance of D, so we are looking for \(\frac{d}{s}\)..
Let us check the statements..
(1) Ms. Nkalubo’s average speed for the trip was 45 miles per hour.
We know s, but nothing about d. Insufficient
(2) If Ms. Nkalubo’s average speed for the trip had been 5/4 times faster, the trip would have taken three hours.
Although we have just value of one variable, the ratio should force you to work out an answer..
Now \(t=\frac{d}{s}\), \(3=d/\frac{5s}{4}=\frac{4d}{5s}=\frac{4t}{5}\)...t=15/4 hr

speed = distance / time
time = distance/speed
t = 3 if speed was 1.25 faster than original
so
we can say
3= d/1.25s
and d/s=t
1.25*3 = t
t = 3.75 hrs IMO B
