So we know the speed but nothing about X
Insufficient

(2) At the end of 2 hours, the machine has produced 40% of the widgets needed to fill the order.
So in 2 hrs, work done =  x*\frac{40}{100} =0.4x
Thus 0.4x is produced in 2 hrs
So x in  \frac{2}{0.4} =5 hrs

Hello

i wanted to understand the reasoning for the question. The question states that we need to know what the time is for having an order of x widgets finished.

From statement 1, we have the rate given. This means i can write the following --> Rate = Work / Time --> 150 widgets / min = x widgets / Time --> Time = x / 150 mins.

Does the above statement not mean x widgets will be finished in 150 minutes ? So, shouldn't the above statement be sufficient as well ?

Please clarify !

Dear SiddharthR , The question has asked in how much time machine will complete order X, So in statement 1, given a rate of Production, we don't know how much quantity machine has to produce to complete the order. So, Insufficient In Statement 2, given is 40% completion in 2 hour, so in 5 hours 100% will be completed, that is what is asked in question. Hope u understand this.
