How many different solutions the equation {x^4-1/}{x^2-1}= 2 have?
a) 0 b) 1 c) 2 d) 3 e) 4

oa:
I keep getting


If we solve the equation , we will get X=+1 / -1
but none of the values will satisfy the equation , so A is correct.
This is a awesome question. In GMAT crunch time situation , it can be 680-700 level question.

Asked: How many different solutions the equation (x^4 - 1)/(x^2 - 1) = 2 have?

xˆ4 - 1 = (xˆ2 + 1) (xˆ2 - 1)
(xˆ4 - 1)/(xˆ2 - 1) = (xˆ2 + 1) with the condition that \(xˆ2 - 1 \neq 0\)
xˆ2 + 1 = 2
xˆ2 = - 1
xˆ2 >=0 for real x
No real solutions.

IMO A
