The cases could be
1) All letters different: Choose 4 out of 7, and arrange them in 4! ways = 7C4*4!=\(\frac{7!}{4!3!}*4!=7*6*5*4=840\)
2) 3 different letters : Choose A twice and then 2 out of remaining 6, and arrange them in 4! ways = 6C2*4!/2!=\(\frac{6!}{2!2!}=180\)
Similarly when we can choose L twice => 180*2=360
3) 2 different letters : Choose A and L and then arrange them in 4!/2!2! ways = 2C2*4!/2!2!=\(1*\frac{4!}{2!2!}=6\)
Total: 840+360+6 = 1,206

2) AALL Special case: 4!/2!2! = 6
3) AA[2 diff] --> 6C2*4!/2! = 15*12 = 180
LL[2 diff] --> 6c2*4!/2! = 180
Total cases: 840+6+180+180 = 1206
Answer: Option D
