How many nickles does bill have?

1. Bill has a total of 17 nickles and dimes.
2. Bill has $1.30
My choice is C
Not sure though
Matt anyways could U shed some light for what is nickles nominal and dime!I am not sure

Penny= .01
Nickle = .05
Dime= .10
Quarter= .25
Half dollar= .50
Dollar/Buck= $1
"Bill" or "Benjamin"= $100
Grand= $1000
"High society"= $10,000
"Six figures"= $100,000
"Mil"= $1,000,000

(You only need to know the first four for the GMAT 8-) )
TNX Matt
here is my solution
1 insuff because all we can find out is total number
of coins
2 insuff just total sum of money

1&2 together
Let X->be nickels Y->be dimes from first stem x+y=17 x=17-y
from second 5cents*x+10cents*y=130cent----> 5cents(x+2y)=130
divide both sides on 5 we get (x+2y)=26
substitute X for 17-y --->17-y+2y=26 y=9 x= 8
So Bill have 9 dimes and 8 nickels total 1.30$

C should be ans.

n: number of nickels
d: dumber of dimes

S1:
n + d = 17

S2:
5n + 10d = 130 or
n + 2d = 26

two equations can be solved to get:
n = 8

EXACTLY! The question doesn`t specify that Bill ONLY has nickles and dimes. Beware of such "clever wording" traps towards the end of your test. Never ASSUME anything.

OA is E.

It is C if there are only nickels and dimes. However, if 2) allows the possible inclusion of pennies and quarters, it is E.
