Hello,
I have a GMAT score of 700 (Q-46, V-40, IR-8).
I'm contemplating retaking it, hoping I can score around 720-730.
My question is how to value the 8 IR score?
If I get a 710 with IR 7 or a 720 with IR 6 lets say, is it in any case better than the 700 with the 8? Or perhaps it would make sense the keep it if the high IR score carried a lot of weight?
Haven't seen this addressed anywhere.

Gilborg - Congratulations on getting a 700 score on the GMAT. In short, the Integrated Reasoning section does not hold too much importance in your overall applications. In fact, several business schools have made this decision public; you can glance over such articles on the Internet. Also, given you have scored a perfect 8 on your first attempt, chances are very high that you will perform equally well next time as well. Therefore, I do not believe you have to give it a second thought as far as the IR score is concerned.

Hi Gilborg,
First off, a 700/Q46 is an outstanding Score, so you can comfortably apply to any Business Schools that interest you. As such, a retest might not be necessary. Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

To answer your immediate question: many Schools/Programs still do not place much (if any) emphasis on an Applicant's IR Score - meaning that your performance (or potential performance) in that one section should not be influencing your decisions, UNLESS a representative from a specific Program that you plan to apply to has told you directly that IR is a notable factor in the application process for that Program.
If you do choose to retest though, then we have to examine how you were studying for the Quant section before. Once you've decided on whether to retest or not, you should post back here (or you can PM me directly) and we can talk through your study options going forward.
