√number basically means a number to power 1/2 as in (2)^1/2 where ^ means power . second thing all integers are naturally power to 1 for example 4 can be written as 4^1 .
so 12√2 means 12 multiplied by √2 or 12*√2 or 12*(2)1^1/2 . when same number are multipled there powers get added example . (2)^2 * 2^2 = 2^(2+2) , this can be done to same number only .
so 12√(2) * 2√(2) = 12*(2)^1/2 * 2*(2)^1/2 = 12*2*(2)^(1/2+1/2)= 12*2*2^(1) = 12*2*2 = 12*4 = 48 .

See you have to keep in mind that there are two √(2) which when multiplied is nothing but 2 i.e √(2)*√(2)=2 similarly to trick students other under root number would be given in pairs.
Use the above mentioned method and it will become easy for you.
So, solution is 12*2*2=48
