I have seen many people posting about a challenge or a struggle or a bad score and asking for help, only to either not get or get the wrong advice. This topic is to help you get help. If you make these adjustments, you’ll get much better advice and be more successful!
1. Be brief. State the problem and only relevant information. Nobody wants to read a two page letter with your family history or why you want to get an NBA if all you’re asking about is how to improve your timing.
2. Narrow the scope of the question. Providing a tiny bit of information such as your score and asking how to improve it’s probably the best recipe to get the most generic Reep replies. You also will get replies you don’t care about expert will generally avoid questions like these because this should general it shows an overall lack of focus. My suggestion is not to post questions such as I got a 605, how do I improve to 705? (we don’t know what your split is so we have no idea what to tell you) OK, I’ll give you my split, I had 80 Q, 80V and 74DI. How do I improve my score? (see next point)
3. Identify your weaknesses. Rather than saying I have a DI 74, how do I improve it, I would recommend instead looking at your witnesses and asking a more specific question such as: how do I improve my timing on MSR questions? Or how do I approach verbal data sufficiency questions more effectively because my success rate is 30%? Or how do I improve time management on the test?
4. If you’re asking about materials to use, include information what materials you have used already
5. Tell us where you are. If you’re looking for directions how to get to Paris, it is impossible to give them without knowing where you are located in the world. Similarly, if you want to get to hire score or improve your strategy or anything else, we need to know where you are and what you have used.
6. Always check existing discussions to see if your concern has already been addressed because repeated questions can lead to reduced engagement from experts, as similar topics are often already addressed previously.
7. If you’re hoping to hear from specific experts, feel free to tag them in your post as it helps bring the thread to their attention and increases the chances of a timely response.
8. We kindly request your patience after posting a query, please allow up to a week for responses. Experts usually respond as their time permits, and creating duplicate threads for quicker replies can reduce the overall effectiveness of the discussions.
