I scored (Q48 & V20) in GMAT. Verbal section was a disaster for me. I am willing to take GMAT again after 3 months as there are few application deadlines of few colleges.
Can someone suggest me how to work on verbal section and tell me what should be my strategy for preparation?

Hi swapniet,
Firstly, don't be disheartened. Any admission consultant will tell you that there is no harm in taking the GMAT more than once if you can demonstrate score growth.
To improve from here, we need to understand what you did over the course of your 3 months:
How did your Verbal scores in practice tests look prior to your V20? If there was a big deviation, what about test day was different from your practice CATs? Did you take the AWA and IR on your practice CATs? Did you take the test at the same time of day? Did you get a good night's rest? Were you under the weather during the real test? Did you have to travel a long way to get there? Anything that you think differed, please share. What resources were you using?
From there, we can diagnose things further and offer some guidance for you.

Hey swapniet,
As you study, we recommend that you focus on one particular subsection for multiple consecutive days before moving onto the next. You can see this in our study plan where we recommend 5 days on nothing but SC -- before moving onto CR and then RC.
Hello. Indeed it is quite disheartening to know that you scored low in Verbal. Rather than giving you 30,000 feet level tips, I have few questions for:
i) Since you scored low in Verbal, do you know which are your relative strengths and weaknesses in Verbal. Since there are three types of questions in Verbal, do you know whether it is Reading Comprehension, Critical Reasoning, or Sentence Correction that is bothering you the most.
ii) Was there a trend in your mock tests that can help you figure out your specific areas of weaknesses?
iii) Have you tried to avail of the enhanced score report that is now available at the end of GMAT, so that you can analyse it and figure out where you scored the lowest
iv) Were your verbal scores in a similar range in mocks, or was the final score an exception?
Suggestions on improvements would really depend on your answers to these question. For example, if Sentence Correction is specifically bothering you, then I would think that the basics of Grammar are not in place.
Fundamentals of Grammar are the basic building blocks of English language, the way prime numbers are the building blocks of integers in Mathematics. You might want to go through the entire English Grammar that we have made available as a free preview, in our book SC Nirvana; the link is available in the signature.
