I'm consistently scoring 40 on Verbal on my practice CATs. Last two CATs I got 7 wrong on the first, 6 wrong on the second, both V40.
I don't understand the algorithm for verbal. In Quant you can get a 49 with 9 wrong. And yet on Verbal you're a whole 9 points out from the maximum with only 6 wrong. That seems like a whole lot.
What do I need to know about the Verbal algorithm to push up to 44-45?

I got 1 (yes, ONE) counted question wrong on my Verbal. It dropped me from what would have been a V51 to a V48. ESR data on my site.
That being said, though I would know more if you were a student of mine, at a certain point it can be helpful to look at your "approach" to solving questions more than learning more "fundamental" type stuff.

Don't go by algorithm, do the analysis of wrong answers and move ahead.
After sufficient practice, you may see the improvement itself and will reflect in score.
