I get this question once a month and figured it it is time actually create a post for it. Here you go: How to Make a Post or Start a New Topic in a Forum.

1. Start a New Topic

  • Navigate to any of the forums
  • Make sure you are in the right place, such as DS for Data Sufficiency Questions
  • Find the New Topic Button - biggest orange one. Take a deep breath, and push it. Yes! You did it!
  • Make sure you search first so you are not posting a duplicate post/question...

2. Quick Reply to a Post/Topic

  • Navigate to the bottom of the discussion
  • Locate a comments field/area
  • Start typing and then click Submit

3. Full Reply to a Post/Topic

  • Navigate to the top or bottom of the discussion
  • Locate a POST REPLY button
  • Click it. You did it!
  • Careful - it is right next to the NEW TOPIC button

4. QUOTE - FANCY!

  • Navigate to the bottom of a post (not discussion or topic but an individual post)
  • Locate the quote button

The timer is added automatically in PS and DS forums. You can’t have a timer in other forums so make sure you post in the PS/DS.

Great question and thank you for asking.
To attach a file or an image in this case, you have a few options:

You can upload an image to your post and it will show up automatically. To add an image, please click QUOTE or REPLY button (typing in the quick reply text box under the discussion does not work). You can alternatively click PREVIEW button. So any 3 of these buttons will work: Quote, Reply, or Preview and they will take you to the advanced posting window - screenshot is below. Note that you may have to scroll down a bit to see the attachment settings.

Option 2: You can embed an image using the Img Tag (you will need to specif the URL for the image)

You can either use the "Quote" button at the right bottom of each post or mention the user with Username (@ followed by username with no space; just as it's done on other social media websites). Both ways should notify the other user.
