I'm planning to apply for R3 and I just have 2 weeks left for my GMAT. I'm trying to cover basics but not sure if I should still go ahead with it. Any tips?

Hi lunalight, 2 weeks to prep for the GMAT sounds like a big stretch IMO. How about taking an mock GMAT test to see where you currently stand? You’d then be able to take the call whether you’d like to give the test now or after some more prep.

Even with a great score, I would recommend applying R1/R2 next round so that you maximize your chances.

Partly depends where you're applying. If you are applying for a top US school with what may be a 600, but can easily wait a year and re-apply with a 730+ score, probably fair to say waiting is a strong choice.

Hi lunalight,

From your initial post, it's not clear how your studies have been proceeding. Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) What Schools are you planning to apply to and what specific application deadlines are you facing?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

Hi lunalight,

2 weeks certainly is not a lot of time, so what you can do in two weeks really depends on where you are at. Do you have a current GMAT score?

Two weeks is not enough to prepare for the GMAT -- unless you are already at a level that will get you into a university of choice (such people do exist!).
In that case all you really have to do is familiarise yourself with the exam.

Hi lunalight,

Generally speaking, it takes around 300 hours (give or take) to prepare from scratch. This includes everything from concepts to mock tests. Of course it depends on a number of things such as your target score, your strengths and weaknesses, your structure of preparation, the resources you use, your pace of learning etc.

Having said that, for answering your question , it becomes pertinent to know your current status of prep.

Have you taken any official mocks or have taken GMAT earlier ? If you are close to your target score, then it could make sense. Otherwise, 2 weeks may be too little a time to prepare in a structured manner.

In my experience, it’s always better to spare some more time on your preparation until you are ready instead of missing out on your dream colleges/ b-schools in hurry.

Feel free to reach out in case of any queries!
