Thanks MartyTargetTestPrep. Your suggestions have been quite helpful.

Just a few followups to your answer:

1. "I learned a lot from the around 2000 third party questions and 16 third-party tests I used" - anything specific you'd like to recommend for practicing? It seems like I have used a lot of materials and I am not able to track if I am progressing in the right direction.

e.g. When I was using TTP, I could track my progress and it improved my performance pretty well. But once I exhausted TTP's materials, I didn't want to go back and repeat the same questions. I used few other 3rd party materials and I have found those questions pretty irrelevant to GMAT - this resulted in a huge score drop in verbal section during my 2nd attempt.
For quant, there are many questions that are good enough to practice with. So, as long as you are organized, work topic by topic, track your errors, etc., you should be set in quant.

For some insights into how to practice effectively, see this post.

The Best GMAT Practice Methods

For verbal, there are not as many good practice questions, but you could use LSAT and GRE questions for CR and RC. They are not ideal, but by using them, you can learn to execute well and arrive at correct answers, which is what really matters for scoring high on verbal once you've learned the concepts.

For SC, you can use third-party questions and use some judgement to avoid learning things that don't make sense. Also, you could redo the SC questions you have already seen and focus on learning to clearly explain why each choice is correct or incorrect.

In fact, you could use the same approach for CR and RC. Even if you know which choice is the correct answer to a question, you can still learn a lot by figuring out to explain every choice.

2. "There are more official questions in the two Official Practice Questions sets available on mba.com" - I have exhausted all those Practice Questions as well. So, basically I don't have any official questions which I haven't attempted yet. However, does it make sense to repeat these questions and track accuracy on them?
As I suggested above, you could redo the questions with the intention of developing skill in fully articulating what's going on in each choice.

3. Asking because I think I have spent a fair amount of time in attempting a lot of questions but still i am not even close to my target score - Do you think I am doing something fundamentally wrong? If yes, how do I recognise those fundamental mistakes and correct those habitual/behavioural issues?
Yes, probably, you have to adjust how your are practicing. You likely have to do more untimed practice and focus on thoroughly understanding each question and how to get it correct.

Coincidentally I went through daldilaimi interview yesterday itself. It was quite inspiring for me to write this post and take another attempt to resume my prep! Thanks for posting this video.
Great to hear it. I learned from Dalal as well.

Hi asubhampanda
Glad to meet test takers like you who are persistent and dedicated :)
With 6 months at the rate of 6 hours a day, and a score of 690, its clear that your concepts are at place.
Now, the challenge is bigger !
Pushing the score from a Q47 to a Q50/51 and pushing your verbal score to a V40+ is the next new chapter.
It needs different set of skills!- That of "locating" an answer and NOT just solving for every question.
Analyse all incorrect attempts from the OG. Try the advanced guide now and always prioritize on quality over quantity.

1. I have exhausted almost all the official materials till now and this is making me think subconsciously that I can't get my target score
Ans:There are around 2000+ questions that are official. Have you analysed every question of Quants and uncovered the various strategies that can help solve the question smartly? For verbal, are you completely clear on why the incorrect answer choices do not fit the bill? If you have done all this and yet stuck at 690, then there is something fundamentally incorrect and needs fixing. Take help and talk to mentors. Understand the gap. If you have not done this, then complete your analysis exhaustively.

2. I am not sure weather I should stick to a particular study materials or re-do the OG questions. Anyways I have exhausted the official mocks so I am not sure how I can assess my performance improvements
Ans:First part , I have already discussed. For the second part, chose the official mock where you have scored the lowest or the mock that you have taken earliest. After step 1 (described above), retake the official mock and eyeball atleast a 50 point increase. If you are doing better, you will find new questions. A minimum 50 point increase is a measure of your progress. You can read my response on this topic here too.

3.Preparing alone seems like the toughest thing. I am lacking motivation to resume and I tend to give up when I get a sub 600 score in the mocks (mg mat mocks are good but they lower morale sometimes)
Ans:Then Don't :) Take help. If GMAT is the priority, do your research and chose a brand that helps you on one on one mentoring. You need direction and your application gaps need a fix for both Quant and verbal. mg mat or any other test prep mocks, according to me are to be looked upon for practice.
Not for assessment. Here is my response post on this bit. Read it when free.
As far as "lower morale " is concerned, this test is a test of your strategic thinking and decision making. I don't sugarcoat things. So pls take my words positively. :)
You will face trouble, low scores and a rough journey as the climb is steep. Be determined and since you are a persistent test taker, add consistent discipline and keep going ahead.
Dust off any negative emotion and just keep your blinders on.
Analyse, detect and fix gaps, move on if you have an incorrect attempt.
Think critically, think on alternate methods, detect traps if you have a correct attempt.
Analyse exhaustively and with a set momentum. Talk to your mentor if you feel low at any time in the journey.

Adding our story of Riddhi who moved from 630 to 720 by analysing the gaps

Hope my words have given some clarity. :)
Let me know if you have any questions.
Wishing you the very best.

Based on your most recent attempt's ESR, consider using time markers for time management. During Q4 Verbal, you spent an average of 1:12. In case you are looking for more Official Questions, the Online only question banks available through the mba website may be worth checking out.

My score goal is 750 (Q50, V40) and I am planning to give two GMAT attempts (hope one will be sufficient) by March - April.

How to get a V40 or higher on the GMAT? What about a V51?
