Hi KishoreTarak

It's pretty clear that what you're looking for is how to focus your efforts to reach your target score in the most efficient way possible. If you don't know where to focus, you'll spend countless hours on wasted prep -- that won't lead to a score improvement.

If you've scored a 630 on your first practice test, then you've got core skills in place already. That's great news!

We offer a FREE 90 minute GMAT Readiness Assessment and Alignment Session that will do 2 things for you:

1) Create precise focus on where your most critical gaps are in quant and verbal (ie. the ones that will generate the biggest score jumps if you address them).
2) Get you more closely aligned to the test. Your prep needs to reflect a deep understanding of exactly what the GMAT tests you on and how it scores you. Key things you need to master is the central focus on executive reasoning skills and on the CAT (Computer Adaptive Testing) system that is unlike any other test you've taken before

Think of the latter one as learning the key rules of a new sport. Without that knowledge, there's no way you can win.

Let me know if you're interested.

Hi KishoreTarak,

A 630 is a great initial CAT score (the average score on the Official GMAT hovers around 550 most years). Many GMATers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, but your study plan "needs" might vary depending on your Goal Score. Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on your timeline and your goals:

1) What study materials do you currently have access to?
2) What is your overall goal score?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi, I decided to start my preparation by writing the GMAT official practice mock, and I have scored 630 (Q 45, V 32) on the first practice test. Any suggestions on how to prepare from here would be helpful. Also, please mention some good resources to prepare. Thanks in advance :)

Hi Kishore

Congrats on taking the first step towards your GMAT Journey ! It's a good way to start as well, as now you have a bottom line to measure your progress against.

As far as the GMAT prep is concerned, the most important thing is to understand the objective of the exam. GMAT is a test of your inferential skills and your application skills. As such, that is where your focus must be. What you need is a structured study plan that gives you clear guidance on what to study and how to study it. I recommend doing this in 4 phases -

1. Planning - This is where you set your target score, your study plan, your timeline, the colleges you are targeting, the day you plan to take the actual exam. Keep in mind that it generally takes around 3 months to prepare well.
2. Learning - Start learning the concepts, then move to application of concepts. This is a key step, often missing in most students' preparation and leads to them being stuck in the low 600's score range. So you must make sure to avoid this and learn the correct methodologies of solving each question type. Finally, once you're done with that, move on to practicing questions. Solve them and go through the solutions step-by-step to maximize your learning.
3. Review - Assess your performance through sectional tests to find out your weak areas and improve on them. I'd also recommend maintaining an error log to see the mistakes you're making.
4. Mocks - Once you've done all this, you can take full mocks and see your performance.

KishoreTarak,
That's an amazing score to start with. I think taking a course could help you reach your goals.
I would personally recommend TargetTestPrep. They have an amazing trial that you can try to gauge whether the course suits you or not. ( ScottTargetTestPrep, MartyTargetTestPrep .)

You can check the reviews of the course here : https://gmatclub.com/reviews/target-tes ... 85?fl=menu
and you can check the reviews of all the other courses here: https://gmatclub.com/reviews/gmat_courses/?fl=menu

If TTP doesn't meet your needs, I would recommend that you try the trials of the other courses, read the reviews and then take the plunge.

Have a great day
